VOLBEAT: ‘The Hangman’s Body Count’ Animated Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

An animated video for the song “The Hangman’s Body Count” from Danish/American metal rock ‘n’ rollers VOLBEAT can be seen at this location. The track comes off the band’s the fifth studio album, “Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies”, which is likely to sell between 35,000 and 40,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on April 9 via Universal Republic

VOLBEAT has released the video for “Cape Of Our Hero”, the first single from “Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies”. The song has just hit rock radio, while the clip tells the story of a young man who looks back at his youth and remembers his father as the most heroic figure in his life. Guitarist/vocalist Michael Poulsen told The Pulse Of Radio that the song was very personal to him. “I lost my father four, five years ago and I believe that every man in this universe, you know, they have their heroes and most of us are looking at our dad as a big hero,” he said. “And so, of course, I’m singing about a little boy who lost his father, and then at the same time he loses his belief in his superheroes.”

Former ANTHRAX member Rob Caggiano, who was a producer on the new disc, recently joined the band as its new guitarist. He replaces guitarist Thomas Bredahl, who was given his walking papers in November 2011.

The new disc follows up 2010’s “Beyond Hell/Above Heaven”, which featured three No. 1 rock radio hits, “A Warrior’s Call”“Still Counting”and “Heaven Nor Hell”.

VOLBEAT is currently on a spring tour of North America.

Since ICED EARTH’s latest album, “Dystopia”, was released in October 2011, the band has been on the attack in a big way, playing more shows in the past year than in the previous ten years… combined.

Comments ICED EARTH guitarist/mainman Jon Schaffer: “I feel this is a testament to a new beginning, a new energy and a rock solid determination that will see us taking the music of ICED EARTH to every corner of the globe; spreading the awareness of our brand of metal in a way that hasn’t been done before. I’ve never been more proud of this band, our crew, and the people behind the scenes that are responsible for much of our success.”

Early on in the world tour, the band decided that they wanted to capture this newfound energy and passion on film. The biggest question was deciding where to film. There were so many great shows and audiences around the world that it was very challenging to decide which city to choose for this special event. When the offer came in to film at the ancient Kourion Theater in Limassol, Cyprus, they were immediately attracted to that idea. The history and culture there, as well as the Cypriot audience, which the band experienced in December 2011, solidified the decision to film the DVD in Cyprus. Filming and recording a two-and-a-half-hour show in an amphitheater that is 6000 years old and is not set up for a rock concert, paired with 40-degree-Celsius heat, were just some of the obstacles to overcome. But the finished product makes up for any of the challenges that the band and crew faced on that special night.

DARK TRANQUILLITY: New Song ‘For Broken Words’ Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“For Broken Words”, a brand new song from Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY, can be streamed in the YouTube clip at this location. The track comes off the band’s tenth studio album, “Construct”, which will be released on May 27 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Jens Bogren (PARADISE LOSTOPETHKATATONIA) at his Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden.

Says the group about “For Broken Words”: “This is one of the heaviest and most brooding tracks from ‘Construct’, so it’s a good candidate for the online premiere song position. More music from the album will be presented shortly.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY filmed a music video for the song “Uniformity”on Saturday (Saturday, April 13) with Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIRLACUNA COILIN FLAMESSONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.

“Construct” track listing:

01. For Broken Words
02. The Science Of Noise
03. Uniformity
04. The Silence In Between
05. Apathetic
06. What Only You Know
07. Endtime Hearts
08. State Of Trust
09. Weight Of The End
10. None Becoming
11. Immemorial (U.S. bonus track)
12. Photon Dreams (U.S. bonus track)

Commented the band: “The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting DARK TRANQUILLITY album in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the DARK TRANQUILLITY, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999’s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the tracklist, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY recently amicably parted ways with bassistDaniel Antonsson. According to the band, “Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects as well as working more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that the playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion. With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.”

FIREWIND: Live Album Title Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Greek melodic metallers FIREWIND, who feature in their ranks currentOZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Gus G., will celebrate their 10th anniversary by releasing a live album on June 24 via Century Media Records in Europe. Entitled “Apotheosis – Live 2012”, the CD will contain 17 songs recorded at special anniversary shows in Greece as well as all over Europe during the band’s “Few Against Many” tour in 2012. With a playing time of 69 minutes, the effort is a great overview of the band’s career so far, which consists of seven studio albums. It also marksFIREWIND’s final release with singer Apollo Papathanasio, who decided to leave the group at the end of last year.

Stated Gus G.: “Apotheosis = the glorification of a subject to a divine level. That is the word that came to my mind while thinking of how I could best describe the feeling and the vibe of those four anniversary shows we played in our homeland Greece and our last European headline tour in 2012! So that had to be our live album’s title. You can feel the energy on these recordings, you can hear the screams of the most hardcore fans and the FIREWIND chants… it’s all there. No doubt about it, it’s the sheer love from our fans and supporters that has kept us alive and strong for 10 years and we wanted to celebrate all that with this album. We recorded all those shows, chose the best performances and now we can’t wait to release this one!”

FIREWIND recently completed an extensive North American tour withTURISAS and STOLEN BABIES. Filling in on vocals for the trek wasKelly Sundown Carpenter (ADAGIOBEYOND TWILIGHT).

In a recent interview with Metal AssaultGus G. stated about Apollo’s departure: “People following the band for the past few years would know that we’ve had different session guys at the live shows even when Apollowas in the band because he just had to skip a few tours during the year. So whenever the schedule was getting too heavy for him and he would have to take care of stuff back home, we had to get other guys. So this time, he had to skip again and he was like, ‘You know, instead of holding you guys back, I might as well just quit.’ I think he did the right thing for him, for us as well, because we can only do that [getting session vocalists] so many times and we’re better off trying to find a new permanent guy instead of getting replacements for a tour. So at least now we know that we have to find somebody new, and in a sense it’s a bit sad, but at the same time it’s some sort of relief.”

Asked if Carpenter is going to be the permanent replacement forPapathanasioGus said: “We don’t know yet. We’re not going to rush that decision. We’re really happy with what he’s doing on stage; he’s doing a really good job. But we have this tour and then we have a few festivals back home and then FIREWIND might be on hiatus for a while, so we’re going to see what we’re going to do.”

FIREWIND’s latest album, “Few Against Many”, entered the official chart in Greece at No. 42 and in Germany at No. 90. Released in Europe on May 21, 2012 via Century Media Records and in North America on May 22 through DisManic, Inc. via eOne Distribution, the CD was mixed by Jason Suecof and Eyal Levi at Audiohammer Studios(TRIVIUMALL THAT REMAINSDEATH ANGEL) in Sanford, Florida.

DIO’s ‘Magica’ To Get Deluxe CD Treatment

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

As longtime fans can attest, the quality of DIO’s studio albums never wavered throughout the group’s near 30-year career. Case in point, the fan favorite/concept effort “Magica”, which featured Ronnie James Dio’s one-of-a-kind vocals and the return of guitarist Craig Goldy. The album spawned such metal classics as “Fever Dreams”“Turn to Stone” and “Lord Of The Last Day”, and has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide — largely on word of mouth alone. One small problem — the original 2000 CD version has been out of print for years, and has become increasingly hard to find. But to the delight of DIO fans worldwide,“Magica” will be getting a makeover on Tuesday, June 25 as Niji Entertainment Group will be issuing the two-CD “Magica Deluxe Edition”.

A breakdown of what will be included on this two CD set is as follows:

CD 1 will contain the full album.

01. Discovery
02. Magica Theme
03. Lord Of The Last Day
04. Fever Dreams
05. Turn To Stone
06. Feed My Head
07. Eriel
08. Challis
09. As Long As It’s Not About Love
10. Losing My Insanity
11. Otherworld
12. Magica- Reprise
13. Lord Of The Last Day – Reprise

CD 2 will contain “The Magica Story” (narrated by Ronnie James Dio) and the bonus track “Annica”, which was only available as a Japanese bonus track along with “Electra” (which was planned for “Magica 2” and“3”) and six never-before-released “official live bootleg” tracks from 2000/2001.

01. The Magica Story (narrated by Ronnie James Dio)
02. Annica (Japanese-only bonus track)
03. Electra (recorded for “Magica 2” & “3”)
04. Feed My Head (official live bootleg)
05. Fever Dreams (official live bootleg)
06. Turn To Stone (official live bootleg)
07. Lord Of The Last Day (official live bootleg)
08. As Long As It’s Not About Love (official live bootleg)
09. Losing My Insanity (official live bootleg)

Also included in the CD set will be deluxe packaging and a deluxe booklet (which will include the original “Magica” tour dates and a set list), as well as such bonus inserts — including the “Magica Story” — and aRonnie James Dio postcard.

Upon “Magica”’s original release, Ronnie James Dio stated about the concept effort: “Not ever having done this before, and wanting to take some time with it, I didn’t want to be foolish about it. These things can turn out pretty strange. It has its peaks and valleys of course, but it has to tell a story. I didn’t want to do it all in verse. So it tells the story in music as well, with logs of high relief, share and light. It’s much more involved than the things we’ve done before, but again, it retains the character of DIO music. As well, the songs can be removed from the whole process and stand on their own, so much so, that I’ve provided the narration. I’m trying to tell as much as I can in the music, but I want to tell something extra. But in essence, it’s a journey that should be consumed beginning to end.”

And the accolades surrounding “Magica” continue all these years later:

“Since I played such a major role in how ‘Magica’ was created, it became one of my most proudest Dio moments and an experience I shall never forget!”- Craig Goldy (DIODIO DISCIPLES)

‘Magica’ is an album I know Ronnie was extremely proud of. Epic is a word that I often use to describe it to people!” – Simon Wright (DIO,DIO DISCIPLES)

BLACK SABBATH To Release ‘God Is Dead?’ Single This Week

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“God Is Dead?”, a brand new single from BLACK SABBATH, will be made available digitally on April 19. The track, which clocks in at eight minutes and 52 seconds, comes off “13” — the band’s first album in 35 years to feature bassist Geeezer Butler, guitarist Tony Iommi and singer Ozzy Osbourne — due out June 11 on Vertigo/Republic. This marks BLACK SABBATH’s return to Vertigo, their original label, and the group’s first studio album together since 1978’s “Never Say Die!”

The drum tracks on the album were laid down by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE sticksman Brad Wilk following original drummer Bill Ward’s decision to bow out of the reunion.

An invite-only listening party for “13” was held on April 10 at The Montalban in Los Angeles, California.

The following eight songs were played back to a small theater full of select media and VIPs:

End Of The Beginning
God Is Dead?
Loner
Zeitgeist
Age Of Reason
Live Forever
Damaged Soul
Dear Father

Check out a report at the Black Sabbath Online web site.

In its report on the listening party, Loudwire stated about “God Is Dead?”: “Fans who caught the recent video tease the band release will recognize this track. Butler’s bass work offers a mesmerizing beginning to the song that continues through a majority of the track. Osbournesings about a bleak future and questions the existence of a higher being, given some of the hard times on Earth. As he belts, ‘Will someone please tell me is God really dead?,’ a musical shift begins to set in with Wilk and the band offering a swinging beat while Osbourne exclaims, ‘Nowhere to run / Nowhere to hide.’”

Ozzy told an Australian radio station that “13” is “mind-blowing,” adding, “It’s better than my wildest dreams; it’s so good.”

BLACK SABBATH will make a rare television appearance when the band performs a new song on the season finale of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”. The episode is set to air on Wednesday, May 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS-TV. The band will world premiere a song called “End Of The Beginning” from “13”. The episode’s plot follows the “CSI” team as they investigate a series of murder that resemble the sins in “Dante’s Inferno”, with the trail leading the detectives played by Ted Danson andMarc Vann to attend a SABBATH concert.
