New DREAM THEATER Album Due At End Of Summer

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER are in the studio recording the follow-up to their Grammy-nominated album “A Dramatic Turn Of Events”. Members John PetrucciJohn MyungJordan RudessMike Mangini and James LaBrie sat down and answered some questions from their fans on Twitter. Check out the latest clip at this location.

In a recent interview with Roadrunner RecordsDREAM THEATERguitarist John Petrucci stated about the making of the band’s new CD: “First of all, it’s been going great with [drummer Mike Mangini, who joined the group in 2010], and as much as we’ve been a band together for about 15 years, we haven’t really experienced that process together. We’ve been in the studio for a few weeks now, and he’s been amazing. Amazing chemistry is great, the writing process and the whole vibe is great, and his role is to let his personality shine as a drummer, creatively and to have his input and his musical personality really come through. And I gotta tell you, it’s happening. When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

“Live At Luna Park”DREAM THEATER’s live concert captured on 2DVD, Blu-ray, Digital Video, 2DVD/3CD, Blu-ray/3CD, and a deluxe edition (2DVD/Blu-ray/3CD), will drop in May via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

“Live At Luna Park” was filmed over two nights in South America — home to one of DREAM THEATER’s most ardent fanbases. The DVD was filmed August 19 and August 20, 2012 at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina after a 15-month world tour, hitting 35 countries.

07. Rage For Revenge
08. Dragon’s Head
09. Defiant Dreams
10. Damnatio Memoriae
11. Mrs Mcgrath (bonus track)

Commented SUIDAKRA singer Arkadius Antonik: “As on the previous two releases, it will be a concept album again, created by [famous Belgian graphic artist] Kris Verwimp in cooperation with us. Our new concept includes a lot of new elements and suprises which will be reflected in the music as well.”

In a 2012 interview with Metal KaozAntonik stated about SUIDAKRA’s new material: “The songs … are bombastic and we also finished the first song with Tina’s [Stabel] female vocals. This time, it’s gonna be a faster song with a real epic and catchy chorus.”

Bassist Marcus Riewaldt last year announced his departure fromSUIDAKRA. He said in a statement, “After more than 250 shows and 10 years being in the band, I feel that now time has come to change my priorities a bit and see what else life has to offer for me. No hard feelings involved; it’s just that I cannot motivate myself for another writing-rehearsing-recording-promoting-touring cycle and that I’m really annoyed by some of the music business mechanisms that one has to deal with in order to continue this beautiful and exciting, but at the same time very time- and energy-consuming hobby. I wish SUIDAKRA much luck and success for the future — it would all be well deserved!”

SUIDAKRA has already secured a replacement bassist in Tim Siebrecht, who was a stand-in guitar player for SUIDAKRA on several occasions in recent years.

SUIDAKRA’s tenth album, “Book Of Dowth”, was released on March 25, 2011 via AFM Records.

THE SWORD: ‘Cloak Of Feathers’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Cloak Of Feathers”, the new video from Austin, Texas metal luminariesTHE SWORD, can be seen at this location. The clip was directed by Rich Ragsdale.

“Cloak Of Feathers” comes off THE SWORD’s fourth album,“Apocryphon”, which sold nearly 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was produced and engineered by J. Robbins (CLUTCH,JAWBOX) at Magpie Cage Studios and features cover art by famed comic book artist J.H. Williams III (BatwomanPromethea).

Asked about the band’s decision to work with J. Robbins on“Apocryphon” after self-producing two records and then working withMatt BaylesTHE SWORD guitarist Kyle Shutt told AltPress.com, “We’re all huge CLUTCH fans, and we know those guys real well. [James] did two of their last three records, and those sound great, so we figured it was a no-brainer. We called him up and he was into it. He saw our live show at a club in Baltimore on the tour before we came here so he could get a feel of the kind of show we put on because we wanted to make an album that sounds like we do live in a club. And it was great. It was a real speedy process.”

On the topic of the musical direction of the new album, Shutt said, “It is a reflection of everything that we [have gone] through and the lessons we learned. We then deal with these situations metaphorically in our lyrics. This record is just 10 banging hard rockers. There’s no real ‘stick-out’ thrash song, or, like, this one is the ballad. I don’t think there’s going to be any instrumental songs on this record, either, so that’ll be a first for us. It’s just 10 kick-ass rock songs.”

Regarding the subject matter covered in the new songs’ lyrics, Shuttsaid, “There are lyrical themes that weave in and out of the songs, but there’s no story or anything like that. With ‘Warp Riders’J.D.[guitarist/vocalist John Cronise] had already written [the story] and now he [doesn’t] have the time to sit down and write another book. We had the idea to make a comic book for ‘Warp Riders’, but we had some really poor management at the time, so nothing really came together with that and it was going to cost so much money that it never saw the light of day. It was just a nice thing we did. Now we’re moving on to other things.”

In fact, TIAMAT is by far our own biggest influence. We often quote ourselves, what we’ve done in the past, when needed in the studio. There are a lot of elements both in the music and in the lyrics that we have developed over the years that feel genuinely TIAMAT, be it a clean electric guitar sound, a special way of drum patterns, certain ways to express lyrics. We often go back there and sample ourselves, so to speak.”

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Says KVELERTAK: “Stian Andersen and Erik Treimann came along on for a couple of shows on our recent release tour of Europe. The shows that are featured here are from London, Cologne, Paris and the epic final show in Oslo.”Andersen adds: “To direct my first music video with one of the best rock acts on the block is nothing less than a career high and a dream come true! For this video concept I travelled on tour with the band across Europe to capture the (true) essence of KVELERTAK.”
