KATAKLYSM: ‘Waiting For The End To Come’ Cover Artwork Unveiled

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

The CD and limited-cassette main artwork from Peter Sallai for“Waiting For The End To Come”, the forthcoming concept album from Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based death metallers KATAKLYSM, can be seen below.

Comments KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono: “The album art depicts a child which represents innocence in humanity, covered in dirt and blood from life’s experiences. In front of him, his death represented by a reaper who comes to claim his soul for the afterlife, or the abyss. It’s open to the fans to decide with their own beliefs. In the end this is the transition between life and death.”

Due in October via Nuclear Blast Records, the follow-up to 2010’s“Heaven’s Venom” was recorded by KATAKLYSM guitarist Jean-François Dagenais, who has previously worked with MALEVOLENT CREATIONMISERY INDEX and DESPISED ICON, among others, and mixed by Chris “Zeuss” Harris (SUFFOCATIONHATEBREEDARSIS). Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include “If I was God… I’d Burn It All”“Under Lawless Skies” and “Kill The Elite”.

KATAKLYSM will film a music video this month in Belgrade, Serbia with acclaimed director Ivan Colic from iCode Productions (EX DEO,SOILWORKMOONSPELLALESTORMKAMELOT).

Ivan Colic previously worked with KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono on KATAKLYSM’s “Push The Venom” video and EX DEO’s“Romulus” and “Final War (Battle Of Actium)” clips.

Filming will commence in August for “a very ambitious and sick” video for the song “Elevate” from KATAKLYSM’s forthcoming concept album,“Waiting For The End To Come”. According to the band, the plan is to bring the viewers into a visual masterpiece of chaos, a chaos based around the ideals of death, the purpose of life, the human factor, and the semi-coma state that most people in this world exist in.

Says Iacono: “In a nutshell, we believe we wrote the most intense, intricate storyline for a video clip ever made in death metal and our genre. Big statement? Well, we’ve got big ideas and we need to put it to life with crazy visuals. We hired the man who has the balls and the artistic capacity to execute this task plus one of the best special FX teams in Europe to back him up. It’s time to up the game. We’re back and we’re swinging hard.”

As previously reported, KATAKLYSM has recruited ex-NEURAXISdrummer Oli Beaudoin to sit behind the kit during the recording sessions for “Waiting For The End To Come”Beaudoin is also playing all ofKATAKLYSM’s currenty announced shows.

Drummer Max Duhamel announced on April 8 that he was taking a break from KATAKLYSM to deal with issues related to alcohol abuse.

MALEVOLENT CREATION: New Song Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Decibel magazine is streaming “Face Your Fear” a brand new song from Florida-based death metal veterans MALEVOLENT CREATION. The track, which can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget at this location, was recorded, produced and mixed at drummer Gus Rios’ studio, Riversound Productions, except for the vocals, which were laid down with Jim Nickles at his Shredly Studios.

“This is only one song of many Phil [Fasciana, guitar] and I are working on,” Gus Rios tells Decibel.

“We are still debating how we are going to go about releasing new music.

“For a band like ours, with 11 albums and more than 110 songs, it’s just not making sense to record 10 new songs. We are thinking (still not 100%) that doing EPs might be the way. That way we can concentrate on writing five really good songs and play them all live as well.

“We don’t want to be a band that has to rely on its past. We want to write songs that are good enough that people will want to hear them live, as well as the ‘classics.’ And realistically, we would only do about five songs off of any new album anyway due to the extensive catalog.”

Regarding how MALEVOLENT CREATION has managed to retain its musical identity after going through so many lineup changes over the course of the last 20 years, Gus Rios told Rádio Evil: “Since 1997, pretty much every single MALEVOLENT CREATION song anybody’s ever heard, me and Phil [Fasciana, guitar] actually wrote. I live in Fort Lauderdale, and so does Phil, and that’s the songwriting nucleus of MALEVOLENT. So as long as the two of us are still in the band, it’s always gonna sound likeMALEVOLENT CREATION, you know what I mean?! That’s the consistency of the band — the primary songwriters. And then, of course,Brett [Hoffman, vocals].”

MALEVOLENT CREATION’s latest album, “Invidious Dominion”, was released in August 2010 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe through Massacre). The effort was made available in various territories as a regular CD; digipack with bonus material; and vinyl LP.

“Invidious Dominion” was recorded at Mana Recording Studios(CANNIBAL CORPSEVITAL REMAINSGOATWHORE) in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (MORBID ANGELHATE ETERNALCANNIBAL CORPSE). The CD’s cover art was created by renowned artist Pär Olofsson (THE FACELESSIMMORTALABYSMAL DAWN).

DREAM THEATER: New Song ‘The Enemy Inside’ Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“The Enemy Inside”, a brand new song from progressive metal giantsDREAM THEATER, can be streamed at this location (courtesy of USAToday.com). The track comes off the band’s new, self-titled album — the band’s 12th studio release overall, and fourth with Roadrunner Records — which is due on on September 24.

Says guitarist John Petrucci about “Dream Theater”: “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground.

“This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic.

“We’re incredibly excited about ‘Dream Theater’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It’s the band’s second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.

In January, Petrucci said of Mangini’s work: “When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

“Dream Theater” track listing:

01. False Awakening Suite
I. Sleep Paralysis
II. Night Terrors
III. Lucid Dream
02. The Enemy Inside
03. The Looking Glass
04. Enigma Machine
05. The Bigger Picture
06. Behind The Veil
07. Surrender To Reason
08. Along For The Ride
09. Illumination Theory
I. Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire
II. Live, Die, Kill
III. The Embracing Circle
IV. The Pursuit of Truth
V. Surrender, Trust & Passion

“Dream Theater” will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180-gram double LP, and a limited-edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records webstore.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS: Classic Titles To Be Reissued

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS — the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMYguitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, along with vocalist Apollo Papathanasio (ex-FIREWIND) — will embark on a European tour in October, with U.K.’s PURSON as special guests.

Just in time for the upcoming tour, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS will reissue two of its classic catalog titles on October 14: the band’s 2005 “Demons”album will be available for the first time ever on vinyl via InsideOut Music; and their acclaimed and hard-to-find debut LP, the self-titled“Spiritual Beggars” from 1994, will be re-released with over 70 minutes of unreleased bonus material via Century Media Records. Look out for more details about these titles soon.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS’ eighth studio album, “Earth Blues”, was released on April 16 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music.

Amott previously stated about the new CD: “I had the idea for this artwork from my time as a child, seeing posters of two young lovers watching a romantic sunset on the beach — just your typical tacky bedroom art in the ’70s, really… Also, growing up in what is now referred to with some nostalgia as the Atomic Age — the threat of nuclear war was always looming over our heads it seemed. I wanted to combine these two images of my youth in one paradoxical image and Per Wiberg ofHippograffix (and SPIRITUAL BEGGARS keyboardist) really managed to capture the melancholic feeling perfectly. Earth Blues, indeed.”

Regarding the making of “Earth Blues”Amott said: “We started the recording process of ‘Earth Blues’ with an eight-day-long session at Fat Guitar Studios (Sweden) with knob-twiddler Roberth Ekholm, a truly great dude who really knows how to capture a band jamming live, sadly a rare quality in recording engineers nowadays! We continued with some overdubs at various studios in Sweden, and it’s all come together super easy this time. Sonically, I think this might be our finest hour yet. It’s a raw, heavy and honest record.”

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS 2013 is:

Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY, CARCASS) – Guitar
Ludwig Witt (FIREBIRD) – Drums
Per Wiberg (OPETH) – Keyboards
Sharlee D’Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, MERCYFUL FATE) – Bass
Apollo Papathanasio (FIREWIND) – Vocals
