SODOM: More ‘Epitome Of Torture’ Album Details Revealed
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
German thrash metal veterans SODOM will release their new studio album, “Epitome Of Torture”, on April 29 in Europe and May 7 in North America via SPV/Steamhammer. Vocalist/bassist Thomas “Angelripper” Such, guitarist Bernd “Bernemann” Kost and new drummer Markus “Makka” Freiwald recorded a total of twelve new tracks (plus a MOTÖRHEAD cover) which “present SODOM as more diverse and multi-faceted than ever,” according to a press release.
“‘Epitome Of Torture’ features not only your typical SODOM fare, but also two or three numbers which are slightly more moderate and melodic than what people have come to expect from us,” says Angelripper, “so wait and see!”
“Epitome Of Torture” was produced by Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC., ENEMY OF THE SUN), whose expertise as a sound engineer and audio magician thoroughly enhanced SODOM’s previous CD, 2010’s “In War And Pieces”. Angelripper says: “Waldemar is a true authority. He doesn’t let you get away with anything, he knows all our weak spots. Which occasionally makes working at the studio a little demanding, but at the end of the day, it’s all worthwhile, as the result shows.” The SODOM frontman describes the sound on “Epitome Of Torture” as “hard as nails and contemporary, without ignoring our tried-and-tested old-school attitude.”
“Epitome Of Torture” will be available in four different formats: a limited-edition digipak, including two bonus tracks and a poster; regular jewel case; as a double gatefold vinyl, including three bonus tracks; and as a digital download. The cover artwork featuring SODOM’s popular “Knarrenheinz” logo was developed by graphic designer Meran Karanitant, who has previously worked with SIX FEET UNDER, HATEBREED and DIMMU BORGIR, among others.
SODOM will film a video for the song “Stigmatized” later this month with Roax Media (SODOM’s “Lords Of Depravity” volumes 1 and 2, VOLBEAT, THE MOB RULES) in Berlin.
“SODOM haven’t had an official video clip for some time, so it’s about time we did one,” says Angelripper. “That’s why the mini film will be uncompromising, a shocking clip which our fans can look forward to!”
SODOM’s latest CD, “In War And Pieces”, entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 64.
SODOM in 2010 parted ways with drummer Bobby Schottkowski due to “personal and private problems between Tom and Bobby,” according to a statement released by the band.
SODOM’s current drummer, Markus Freiwald, previously played for the German bands DESPAIR and FLAMING ANGER and was involved with the VOODOOCULT project. In addition, he played percussion as a session musician on the MOONSPELL album “Irreligious” and is featured on the 1996 LP “Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers” by Greek extreme metallers ROTTING CHRIST.

American/German/Swedish symphonic metallers KAMELOT will release a new digital single tomorrow (Friday, February 8). Acording to a press release, “Falling Like The Fahrenheit” “combines everything what the band stands for: melody, epic and melancholy atmospheres, and the unique voice of the new singer Tommy Karevik.”
The “Falling Like The Fahrenheit” single will feature a special radio edit of the title track as well as the full album version.
“Falling Like The Fahrenheit” comes off KAMELOT’s new album, “Silverthorn”, which sold 5,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 79 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band’s previous CD, “Poetry For The Poisoned”, opened with around 6,100 units in September 2010 to enter the chart at No. 74.
“Silverthorn” was released on October 30, 2012 in North America, October 26, 2012 in Germany and October 29, 2012 in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV. The CD marks the band’s first release with Tommy Karevik, the Swedish vocalist who previously fronted SEVENTH WONDER (a group that he is still a member of).
Tommy first appeared as one of the guest singers on KAMELOT’s very successful 2011 Pandemonium World Tour.
KAMELOT supported Finnish/Dutch symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH on their North American tour last summer.
CARCASS Mixing 15 Songs For First Studio Album In 17 Years
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Reactivated British extreme metal legends CARCASS have begun mixing 15 new songs for their first studio album in 17 years with acclaimed producer Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE). The band has yet to secure a label home for the effort, which is expected later this year.
Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who have been touring with CARCASS since the band’s reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY. Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the studio for the new CD recording sessions was drummer Daniel Wilding of TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED. “For live, we’ll obviously add another guitarist — we have someone in mind but we are not interested in a ‘name’ player,” Walker told Decibel magazine in December.
Regarding the sound of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walker stated: “We’ve taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it’s in our blood, but it’s no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I’ve jokingly christened some parts ‘trad blast’ and some ‘death sleaze’… don’t think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we’re setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]”
Asked if this means we’ll be hearing some death metal vocals out of Bill for the first time since “Necroticism”, Walker told Decibel, “Yes, already in the can. It’s more along the lines of how I envisioned him backing me up on ‘Heartwork’. That said, my own vocals have a hell of a lot more range than they did in the past solely down to the luxury of having time to record them — I did all the vox for ‘Heartwork’ in two days and it shows! Also, (hopefully) [drummer] Ken [Owen] [who is not involved in the band’s current reunion because he suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in February 1999 and has had some rather serious health problems since then. — Ed.] will make an appearance — we just need to tidy a few loose ends before the mix.”
CARCASS is in the process of booking a number of live shows for 2013, including appearances at year’s Maryland Deathfest, Germany’s Party.San Open Air, Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault, U.K.’s Damnation, The Netherlands’ Neurotic Deathfest and Chile’s Metal Fest.
CARCASS’ last album, 1996’s “Swansong”, was re-released in July 2008 via Earache Records. The reissue came fully remastered on a DualDisc (combined CD and DVD) in a deluxe digipak with extra artwork and a free sticker sheet featuring exclusive CARCASS designs, and included part 5 of a mini-documentary series entitled “The Pathologist’s Report” as bonus video material, plus an exclusive bonus track, “Deathrider Da”.

PESTILENCE Signs To Candlelight Records
Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of PESTILENCE. The celebrated eastern Netherlands-based band is currently preparing to enter the studio to begin work on their seventh studio album, titled Obsideo. The album is expected to be produced by vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli and set to feature ten new songs. No release date is set as of press time.
The band comments, “PESTILENCE is very excited to announce that they have signed a recording deal with Candlelight Records. We feel that our new material is very special and innovative and that it needs the back up of a solid company like Candlelight to get it out there to the metal world.”
Obsideo will feature band mastermind Mameli and long-time partner guitarist Patrick Uterwijk with new German bassist George Maier and Australian drummer Dave Haley. Mameli notes, “PESTILENCE is chuffed to have Dave Haley in the lineup. Dave is one of the five best extreme drummers in the world, and his talent brings PESTILENCE to new levels that couldn’t be reached otherwise. Georg Maier is a young and talented bass player that will turn some heads. Both guys are really down to earth and real easy going. Of course, Patrick Uterwijk is my most respectable and long-going friend and musician.”
Formed in 1986, PESTILENCE took influence from early American and German thrash metal to cultivate its now signature death metal sound. Four albums would see release and continued worldwide growth for the band before members decided to go separate ways in 1994. Fourteen years later, the band would reform and in 2009 released Resurrection Macabre (Mascot). On review, noted website Chronicles Of Chaos said, “Mameli and company chose to steer this effort down paths previously unexplored whilst maintaining their unmistakably vintage essence.” Blabbermouth added, “distinctive and unique… a diverse and satisfying metal experience.”
In recent years, PESTILENCE has also returned to the live stage; their first North American tour in over 16 years commenced at the annual Maryland Death Fest May 30, 2010. Commenting to Noisecreep after announcement of the 18-city tour, Mameli said, “we will put our heart and soul into these upcoming shows and hope to make lots of fans happy with both old and new material.” PESTILENCE was a featured performer on the second annual 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise that left Miami on January 23, 2012. The band performed two sets on the popular Caribbean cruise that also featured Cannibal Corpse, Crowbar, My Dying Bride, Samael, Overkill, and Venom among others.
PESTILENCE is exclusively endorsed by Ibanez Guitars and Pyramid Strings.
