Australia’s NE OBLIVISCARIS Signs With SEASON OF MIST
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Season Of Mist has announced the signing of Australian progressive extreme metallers NE OBLIVISCARIS. The band stands on its own by infusing its metal with western art music, jazz, and flamenco. With adventurous, progressive and nuanced compositions often exceeding ten minutes in length, NE OBLIVISCARIS adds profound depth to a musical proficiency which reaches the highest levels.
Said NE OBLIVISCARIS in a statement: “For us as a band, signing to Season Of Mist, one of the best independent metal labels in the world, a label which roster includes some of our all time favorite bands and influences, is quite surreal.
“We worked for many years to get our debut album, ‘Portal Of I’, out there for the world to hear and for its reception to have been so overwhelmingly positive, and for a label like this to not only love our music, but believe we can go places in the worldwide metal scene is incredible. It is one of those things that just gives us even more motivation to keep composing and performing and trying to take Ne Obliviscaris as far as we can to as many people across the world as possible.
“We’re currently in the middle of writing our next album with plans to record late 2013 and we can’t wait to get it out there to the world and take that next step in partnership with Season Of Mist.”
NE OBLIVISCARIS has toured Australia alongside SOILWORK, SUFFOCATION, PSYCROPTIC and more. The band has also played several revered festivals like ProgPower, Bloodline and Sonic Forge.
With its first demo, “The Aurora Veil”, in 2007, NE OBLIVISCARIS garnered significant word-of-mouth within the metal underground. Last year, their independently released debut album, “Portal Of I”, showcased their unique array of influences and dynamic songwriting, and sent shockwaves through the metal underground once again.

SAXON’s New Album Pushed Back To March
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Due to “manufacturing problems,” the release dates have changed for SAXON’s new album, “Sacrifice”. The CD will now be issued on March 1 in Europe (except in the U.K., where it will be made available on March 4) and March 26 in North America through UDR. Taking a sharper, re-invigorated approach to the production, on this, their 20th album, SAXON have produced 10 of their strongest, heaviest and most inspired songs for many-a-year, and a more than worthy successor to their last album “A Call To Arms”.
“Less tricks, more power!” roars frontman and founding father Biff Byford. “My brief to the band was to be raw, be real and not be afraid to look back at the old classic material for inspiration.”
The album was recorded at LS Studios in Yorkshire and was produced by Byford, with Andy Sneap mixing and engineering by Jacky Lehmann. It fairly bristles with muscular metallic intent, Paul Quinn’s and Doug Scarratt’s guitar work the best it’s ever been, while Biff’s vocals sound fresher and livelier. The songwriting too harks back to a classic era in SAXON’s history, with the likes of “Warriors Of The Road”, “Wheels Of Terror” and “Stand Up And Fight” evoking the halcyon days of yore with a contemporary twist, the classic SAXON sound absorbing the snarl, ferocity and attitude of contemporary bands (and fans) such as MEGADETH, as evidenced by the crunching title cut, “Sacrifice”.
“It’s certainly been done from a more early ’80s thrashier perspective,” explains Biff, “and it’s not just guitars bashing away willy-nilly, they’ve got a fresh drive, purpose and perspective.”
Besides the new material, SAXON will also be adding some unique recordings of revisited classic to certain formats of the release, also produced by Byford and mastered by Andy Sneap, including an orchestrated version of “Crusader” and an acoustic version of “Frozen Rainbow”.
“From the songs to the production, I wanted to focus on the raw aspects which made us great in the first place,” concludes Biff, “And living in that rawness, combined with some great classic SAXON songwriting, has in my opinion made SAXON fresher than ever.”
The “Sacrifice” cover artwork was created by longtime SAXON artist Paul Raymond Gregory and can be seen below.
“Sacrifice” track listing:
03. Made In Belfast
04. Warriors Of The Road
05. Guardians Of The Tomb
06. Stand Up And Fight
07. Walking The Steel
08. Night Of The Wolf
09. Wheels Of Terror
10. Standing In A Queue
* Luck Of The Draw (on iTunes only)
01. Crusader (orchestrated version)
02. Just Let Me Rock (re-recorded version)
03. Requiem (acoustic version)
04. Frozen Rainbow (acoustic version)

IRON MAIDEN: ‘Maiden England ’88’ Concert To Be Released On DVD In March
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
EMI will release IRON MAIDEN’s double-disc DVD “Maiden England ‘88” on March 25. Now available for the very first time on DVD, this live show was filmed across two sold-out nights at Birmingham N.E.C Arena, U.K. in November 1988 during the band’s “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son World Tour”. Disc one contains the concert which has been specially upgraded and extended from the existing 1989 longform VHS release and now includes three previously unreleased encores — “Running Free”, “Run To The Hills” and “Sanctuary” — thereby completing the full concert with a total running time of 110 minutes. MAIDEN’s own film producer and director Andy Matthews went back to the 1988 edit and painstakingly remastered each shot digitally; color correcting and grading to give the image the best possible look from that time. As well as the VHS stereo sound track by Martin Birch, the band’s producer between 1981 and 1993, the DVD also includes a brand new 5.1 audio surround mix by MAIDEN’s current producer Kevin Shirley. The concert was meticulously directed and edited by bass player and founder member Steve Harris, so as to capture the performance from a fans-eye view of the stage, focusing fully on the music, the elaborate stage production and the lighting. Add into the mix an electrifying set list and, of course, Eddie, and “Maiden England” now offers a snapshot of a bygone era in which the band, as they continue to do today, devote their all in delivering the ultimate live experience for their fans.
Disc two is an extensive bonus disc featuring an exclusive documentary charting Part 3 in “The History Of Iron Maiden”. This 40-minute film comprises recent interviews with the five band members and manager, Rod Smallwood. Picking up the story in the aftermath of the ‘84/85 “World Slavery” tour, this interesting and insightful documentary sees the band speak candidly about their memories of an exciting and occasionally turbulent period from which would emerge the albums “Somewhere In Time” and “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son”. As the Eighties began to draw to a close, so did another chapter in MAIDEN’s compelling history.
Other special extras on the bonus disc include “12 Wasted Years”. First released as a longform VHS in 1987 and available for the first time on DVD, this documentary runs for 90 minutes and includes archive interviews and dynamic live footage from the band’s beginnings in the now-legendary Ruskin Arms pub, via London’s Marquee club and three world tours. Five promo videos for the singles from the aforementioned albums are also featured and have been carefully restored and improved upon from the original films using the very latest software with the audio remastered in digital stereo.
Smallwood comments: “We’ve been busy upgrading this concert footage for a long time, with our in-house film producer and director Andy Matthews working tirelessly to weave his magic yet again!
“The 1989 VHS video has been largely unavailable for many years and we know how eagerly our fans have been awaiting the new version so we wanted to give it the best possible treatment.
“The current ‘Maiden England’ world tour, which continues later this year, revisits much of the set list and production from the initial 1989 VHS release so it will be interesting to compare just how much has changed in terms of our 2013 live show production, especially with all the advances in modern technology and the improvements we’ve been able to make to the set.”
The “Maiden England ‘88” concert soundtrack will also be made available on 2CD album, limited-edition double vinyl picture disc and digital download formats. The audio had previously only ever been available before on CD as part of EMI’s 1994 “Sound And Vision” series packaged alongside the VHS, but with two tracks fewer than the video contained. “Can I Play With Madness” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name” were not featured as there was no space on the 1CD disc. Now with the three encores also included, the double disc offers a total of five tracks previously unavailable on CD making this the first full and complete audio recording release of this historic tour.

SATYRICON Begins Recording New Album
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON have entered the studio to begin recording their new album for a tentative September release. The band will premier some of its new material during an appearance at this year’s edition of the Inferno festival, set to take place March 27-30 at the Rockefeller, John Dee, Rock In, Blå, Unholy, Victoria and Revolver venues in Oslo, Norway.
In a June 2012 interview with MetalSickness.com, SATYRICON frontman Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven stated about the band’s decision to take a long break after completing its last extensive tour in 2009, “I felt that the cycle of SATYRICON had become very something different from what I wanted it to be. It became like this: write, rehearse, record, promote, tour, finish. [Then again] write, rehearse, record, promote, tour, finish. And again and again and again. And I came to a point in 2009 where I went, like, ‘What’s the point of this? Is this why I started [playing music]? Definitely not.’ This was never my goal to come in a situation like this. It’s not like I dreamt about living on a bus. It was not my goal in life. Or to live my life in a suitcase. Or in a backstage. It was never my plan. My plan was to write music, record music and release music and then do the occasional show and tour, but this became like a clusterfuck of events — all the time something going on and all this pressure all the time, especially from everyone around us. Plus, I also think that when you’re working so intensely, there’s sort of this tear-and-wear to people on a personal level. And also, as the leader of a company or a sports team or a metal band, you also have a responsibility to make some decisions that might be popular but unnecessary. And for those who just want to go on the road and play all the time, they don’t want to have a break, and our agent and record company, they certainly didn’t want any break. But for me, it became almost like a choice between quitting as a band or taking a break.”
SATYRICON’s latest album, “The Age Of Nero” (2008), entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 73. It also landed on the national chart in Norway at position No. 5. This was SATYRICON’s lowest chart entry in the band’s home country since “Rebel Extravaganza”, which premiered at No. 32 in 1999. “Volcano” (2002) entered the chart at No. 4, while 2006’s “Now, Diabolical” came in at No. 2.
MEGADETH: New Album Title, Record Label Revealed
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
MEGADETH has set “Super Collider” as the title of its new album, due this June via MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine’s new label, Tradecraft, which is distributed by Universal Music Enterprises(UMe).
“It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal,” said Mustaine. “It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label.
“Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for MEGADETH ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all.
“We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, ‘Super Collider’.
“If MEGADETH being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.”
“Super Collider” is being recorded at Mustaine’s Vic’s Garage studio in San Marcos, California and is MEGADETH’s first release its recent split with Roadrunner Records.
“Shawn [Drover, drums], Chris [Broderick, guitar] and David [Ellefson, bass] have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now,” Mustaine said.
Speaking to Full Metal Jackie at last month’s NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California, Mustaine stated about the direction of the band’s new material: “[MEGADETH bassist] David Ellefson is one of those guys that’s kind of the barometer of the band. You ask me, you never really know what you’re gonna get, but when you ask David Ellefson, it’s kind of like reading the ingredients on the back of something, ‘cause he’s such a straight shooter. He told some people the other day that this is music that’s really similar to [MEGADETH’s 1985 debut album] ‘Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!’, some of the stuff — really dark, really heavy and fast stuff. I mean, I don’t thnk it’s really as fast and heavy as ‘Killing’ is, to me, but Junior is a great, like I said, barometer — bad word, but he knows what’s going on.”
On the topic of MEGADETH’s current label situation, Mustaine said: “We have a new label. We left Roadrunner; we completed our contract with them, which not a lot of many metal bands have the luxury to have been able to complete contracts. They usually either break up or quit or give up and stuff like that, but we were honorable and finished our contract with them and we moved on. And we’ve actually got a fantastic relationship with a brand new label. We have eleven songs already recorded. We wanna give them thirteen, ‘cause, you know, the B-sides and Japanese releases and all that kind of crazy stuff.”
“MEGADETH is not just one of the most successful metal bands, but one of the most influential rock bands of the past 30 years,” said UMe President/CEO Bruce Resnikoff in making the announcement. “They continue to be a huge draw on the road with their longtime fans as well as continually adding new fans. I look forward to working together with them.”
With the recent acquisition of EMI, UMe now brings together MEGADETH’s classic, 14-year, seven-album Capitol catalog, which includes one multi-platinum release (‘92’s “Countdown To Extinction”), four platinum records (‘86’s “Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?” ; ‘88’s “So Far, So Good… So What?”; ‘90’s “Rust in Peace”; ‘94’s “Youthanasia”), and one gold (‘97’s “Cryptic Writings”). In all, the band has scored five U.S. Top 10 albums (including 2007’s “United Abominations” and 2009’s “Endgame”) and two Top 5 releases, with 2011’s “TH1RT3EN” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.
In a January 24 post on his Facebook page, Ellefson wrote about the recording process for MEGADETH’s new album: “Having a great week here at Vic’s Garage laying down bass on the new songs. Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave [Mustaine] today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met. Fast, ripppin’ and fully bringing the REAL old-school MEGADETH sound!!!”
Johnny K produced MEGADETH’s last album, 2011’s “TH1RT3EN”, which was also recorded at Vic’s Garage.

VREID Unveils “The Reap” Video Via Metal Injection
Today mega metal video gateway Metal Injection delivers “The Reap,” the brand new video offering from Norwegian black ‘n’ roll overlords VREID. The tune comes from the band’s forthcoming new full-length, Welcome Farewell. Appropriately dubbed “energetic, infectious, virulently catchy, and furiously, belligerently aggressive,” in an early review by No Clean Singing, Welcome Farewell was recorded at bassist Hváll’s own Studio 1184 and is set for North American release via Indie Recordings March 5, 2013.
Noted Hvall upon seeing the video clip for the first time: “I just got to view the final version of our music video for ‘The Reap.’ The result is fantastic! I love it! It defines the lyrics and is like a prolonging of the artwork on the album. When we started to work together for the video, I hoped that they would catch the essence of the song. They have gone beyond that, and created something genuine and unique.”
Produced by Einar Loftesnes and animated by Kim Holm, who also crafted the record’s striking cover art, view “The Reap” in all its blood-splattered glory atTHIS LOCATION.
Additionally, you can still sample “The Way Of The Serpent” HERE.
Formed in 2004 following the demise of ‘’Sognametal” legends Windir and described by Metal Hammer UK as a “unique time-travel in metal,” VREID seamlessly merge the prime tenets of ‘70s rock, ‘80s classic metal and Norwegian black metal into a difficult-to-pinpoint, expertly arranged sound implosion. Notorious for their well-researched, historically-inspired lyrics, the band’s third and fourth offerings, I Krig and Milorg, were both concept albums based around the liberation work in Norway during World War II. Liberation was also the keyword on VREID’s last offering, V, but placed in a broader historical/philosophic perspective. The lyrics on Welcome Farewell describe a lifecycle through a series of short stories, seen from an existential point of view and, inspired by Hváll’s own local community with its nature, architecture and historical artists such as Arne Garborg and Otto Valstad, are more personal than ever before.
