CRADLE OF FILTH To Release Total Fucking Darkness Demo On Vinyl This Spring Via Mordgrimm

After more than two decades, Total Fucking Darkness, the infamous third demo from notorious UK extreme metal magicians, CRADLE OF FILTH, will be unleashed on gatefold double LP and digipak CD via Mordgrimm this Spring.

The undertaking was helmed by vocalist Dani Filth, former guitarist Paul Ryan (currently of The King Is Blind) and Cacophonous Records founder Frater Nihil, who first signed CRADLE OF FILTH, in an effort to bring fans old and new a remastered version of the demo along with material that had been sitting in the vaults for twenty years.

Given new life at Turan Studio in Oxford with the aid of engineer Tim Turan (who has worked on everything from Emperor to Thin Lizzy), Total Fucking Darkness commences with “Spattered In Faeces,” the only surviving track from the now mythical Goetia sessions, followed on Side A and the rest of Side B with the recordings from the Total Fucking Darkness demo. Side C offers up another previously unreleased hymn with “Devil Mayfair (Advocatus Diaboli),” recorded in a rehearsal studio on Samhain 1992, followed by three more tracks from the same session, a further hint of the material that would have featured on the aborted Goetia album. Two short instrumental movements from former CRADLE OF FILTH keyboardist Ben Ryan are also included.

Housed in a heavy gatefold sleeve with paintings featuring the perverse visions of Radio 1 Presenter and occult artist, Daniel Carter, the legendary recording will be released in an initial mail-order edition of 666 copies, unleashed in an unholy trinity of three two-color, 180-gram vinyl variants limited to 222 copies each; orange/black, blue/grey and grey/black. Each copy includes a limited edition booklet with a foreword by Dani Filth and formerly unseen photos from the band archives. A retail version in blue vinyl with insert, and a digipak CD, will be available from Amazon and other outlets on May 5, 2014, with the limited edition version slated for release two weeks earlier.

Reunited DARK ANGEL: New Rehearsal Footage Posted Online

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Video footage of reunited thrash metal pioneers DARK ANGEL rehearsing the song “Death Is Certain (Life Is Not)” earlier this month at a Southern California studio can be seen at this location.

As previously reported, DARK ANGEL will reform for a limited number of appearances in 2014 in the U.S. and select festivals in Europe.

The confirmed lineup for these rare and unique, select 2014 shows will be:

Gene Hoglan (drums)
Eric Meyer (guitar)
Jim Durkin (guitar)
Ron Rinehart (vocals)
Michael Gonzalez (bass)

Comments Hoglan: “DARK fuckin ANGEL has been working real hard behind the scenes, and I can’t tell you enough how happy we are to bring this beast back to the fans.

“I’ll admit before the rehearsals I really didn’t know what to expect, but let me tell you, you to will be as stoked as I am.

“We have returned!”

During an appearance on this on the September 8, 2013 edition of the “Heavy Metal Mayhem” radio show, Hoglan spoke about the DARK ANGEL reunion, saying: “The most important thing for, I think, any of us, and especially me, and I know a couple of the other guys that are involved that the legacy of the band is very important. And if the band has attained some of kind of underground legendary status over the years, then if we do wanna return, a lot of people have great expecations of us, we’d better exceed those expectations.

“Like Ron Rinehart said, the definition of ‘good’ is ‘not bad.’ [laughs] We don’t wanna come out and even be great; we wanna be No. 1. And that’s a very heartening attitude.

“If some of the people that might wanna get involved with this… You’ve gotta do it for the right reasons. This is for the fans. And we’re gonna come out and disappoint the fans, don’t do it. If we’re gonna come out and make the fans go, ‘Yes, I expected something great and I got godly.’ Then there’s a reason for doing it.”

DARK ANGEL released two albums with Don Doty on vocals — 1984’s “We Have Arrived” and 1986’s “Darkness Descends” — before he exited the group and was replaced by Ron Rinehart (after a brief stint with Jim Drabos in 1987). The band issued two more studio LPs — 1989’s “Leave Scars” and 1991’s “Time Does Not Heal” — before calling it quits in 1992. RinehartHoglan and Meyer reassembled DARK ANGEL more than a decade ago but were forced to abandon their reunion plans after health issues reportedly put an end to Rinehart‘s singing career.

Drummer GUS RIOS Quits MALEVOLENT CREATION

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

According to Sick Drummer Magazine, drummer Gus Rios has left Florida death metal veterans MALEVOLENT CREATION. He explains in a statement: “After several years, I have decided to part ways permanently with MALEVOLENT CREATION. The simple reason is personal differences.

“I appreciate all of the people I’ve worked with during my time with the band and want to thank all of them. I’m sure we’ll work together again in the future with another band. Most of all, I would like to thank all of the fans who have supported the band! I’m sure you will continue to support.

“This opens me up for bands in need of a touring and/or recording drummer, as well as a full-time position if the situation is right.

“I can be reached on my Facebook page.”

Rios joined MALEVOLENT CREATION in 2008 as the replacement for Dave CulrossRios recorded and co-mixed the band’s tenth studio album, “Doomsday X”, and laid down the drum tracks on MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s 2010 CD, “Invidious Dominion”.

MALEVOLENT CREATION recently finished recording its new album. The CD CD is expected to include the tracks “Corporate Weaponry” and “Face Your Fear”, the latter of which can be streamed below. The song was recorded, produced and mixed at Rios‘ studio, Riversound Productions, except for the vocals, which were laid down with Jim Nickles at his Shredly Studios.

“We are still debating how we are going to go about releasing new music,” Gus Rios told Decibel back in August 2013.

“For a band like ours, with 11 albums and more than 110 songs, it’s just not making sense to record 10 new songs. We are thinking (still not 100%) that doing EPs might be the way. That way we can concentrate on writing five really good songs and play them all live as well.

“We don’t want to be a band that has to rely on its past. We want to write songs that are good enough that people will want to hear them live, as well as the ‘classics.’ And realistically, we would only do about five songs off of any new album anyway due to the extensive catalog.”

Regarding how MALEVOLENT CREATION has managed to retain its musical identity after going through so many lineup changes over the course of the last 20 years, Rios told Rádio Evil: “Since 1997, pretty much every single MALEVOLENT CREATION song anybody’s ever heard, me and Phil [Fasciana, guitar] actually wrote. I live in Fort Lauderdale, and so does Phil, and that’s the songwriting nucleus of MALEVOLENT. So as long as the two of us are still in the band, it’s always gonna sound like MALEVOLENT CREATION, you know what I mean?! That’s the consistency of the band — the primary songwriters. And then, of course, Brett [Hoffman, vocals].”

MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s latest album, “Invidious Dominion”, was released in August 2010 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe through Massacre). The effort was made available in various territories as a regular CD; digipack with bonus material; and vinyl LP.
