PANTERA: ‘Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition’ To Arrive In March
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
PANTERA reached a major milestone in 1994 when the legendary metal band’s seventh studio album, “Far Beyond Driven”, debuted at NO. 1 on The Billboard 200, becoming the fastest-selling album of the group’s career and its second consecutive platinum release. Not only a commercial success, the album also earned positive reviews around the world for the beautiful brutality of its all-out sonic assault.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of that landmark album and Rhino is celebrating with a special two-disc version that includes a newly remastered version of the album, along with a live performance from the 1994 Monsters Of Rock festival. “Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition” will be available on March 25 for a suggested list price of $18.98. A digital version will also be available.
Following the breakthrough success of 1992’s “Vulgar Display Of Power” — which has since been certified double platinum — singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott returned in March 1994 with “Far Beyond Driven”. Following its No. 1 debut, “Far Beyond Driven” remained on the Billboard album chart for seven more months and many still regard it as the heaviest album to ever top the chart. Its 12 tracks represented a continuation of the previous album’s relentless musical onslaught with hard-hitting tracks like the first single “I’m Broken” as well as the mosh-pit classics “5 Minutes Alone” and “Slaughtered”. Another standout track was the group’s swirling acoustic cover of BLACK SABBATH‘s “Planet Caravan”, which became a live favorite when PANTERA hit the road to support the album later that year.
Fans already familiar with “Far Beyond Driven” are in for a treat with the second disc of the “20th Anniversary Edition”. Dubbed “Far Beyond Bootleg – Live From Donington ‘94”, the disc contains PANTERA full live set recorded at the Monsters Of Rock festival in Donington, England on June 4, 1994. The 40-minute show comprises nine tracks taken from the band’s three most recent albums including: “Use My Third Arm” and “Strength Beyond Strength” from “Far Beyond Driven”; “Walk”, “Mouth For War” and “This Love” off “Vulgar Display Of Power”; plus the title track from “Cowboys From Hell” as well as the live staple melding “Domination” and “Hollow”.
“Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition” track listing:
Disc One – Original Album Remastered
01. Strength Beyond Strength
03. 5 Minutes Alone
04. I’m Broken
05. Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills

Anselmo recently chatted about “Far Beyond Driven” with Artisan News saying, “Considering its contents, it is the heaviest record to come in at No. 1.”
Anselmo went on to discuss the band’s success saying, “The chemistry within PANTERA… In the early days, they were very guarded about what I said here and there. And then, finally, by ‘Vulgar Display Of Power’, it was, like, ‘Just let me handle the lyrics.’ And then by ‘Far Beyond Driven’, I was saying anything I fucking wanted to fucking really fucking sing about, man.”
L.G. PETROV-Led Version Of ENTOMBED Becomes ENTOMBED A.D.

“Back To The Front”, the album that was recorded last year by four members of the most recent lineup of the legendary Swedish metal act ENTOMBED —Lars Göran Petrov (vocals), Olle Dahlstedt (drums), Nico Elgstrand (guitar) and Victor Brandt (bass) — will be released this coming spring via Century Media Records under the band name ENTOMBED A.D.
Petrov will only perform with ENTOMBED A.D. and will not take part of any upcoming shows announced under the name ENTOMBED.
Original ENTOMBED members Alex Hellid (guitar) and Ulf “Uffe” Cederlund (guitar) will join forces with former ENTOMBED frontman Orvar Säfström to perform the band’s classic second album, “Clandestine” (1991), on February 1 at Gävle Konserthus in Gävle, Sweden. They will be backed by the 65-piece Gävle Symphonic Orchestra and a 40-piece choir.
ENTOMBED previously performed “Clandestine” in its entirety with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra on April 12, 2013 at Tonhallen in Sundsvall, Sweden.
Hellid did not participate in the writing and recording of “Back To The Front”.
Century Media Records announced last fall that the release date of “Back To The Front” — which was originally supposed to be made available under the ENTOMBED moniker — was being pushed back to early 2014 from the previously announced October 29, 2013 due to “unpredictable technical problems.”
Asked in an interview with France’s MetalChroniques.fr if the omission of Hellid‘s name from the ENTOMBED biography accompanying a promotional copy of “Back To The Front” was a mistake on the record label’s part, Petrov replied: “I do not want to speak publicly about this at the moment; this is something we want to keep internal and private for now. But this is not an error in the biography. Next question?”
Hellid did not accompany the Petrov-fronted lineup of ENTOMBED when the band performed at the Manizales Grita Rock festival in Colombia in August 2013.
“Back To The Front” was recorded at Studio Bohus (ABBA, EUROPE) in Kungälv, Sweden with producer Roberto Laghi (IN FLAMES, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR). The cover artwork was painted by Zbigniew Bielak (WATAIN, VADER) and can be seen below.
A press release states: “Don’t be afraid that it will sound like ABBA — it’s 666% true to the ENTOMBED everybody loves. While not falling for total regression back to the early classics ‘Left Hand Path’ or ‘Clandestine’, expect a total bone-crushing opus that will have fans of ‘Wolverine Blues’, ‘To Ride…’ or ‘Morning Star’ cry tears of joy. From the morbid, pissed-off lyrics over detuned, massive riffs to the inimitable brick-heavy groove and L.G. Petrov‘s titanic roar, ‘Back To The Front’ has it all, so get ready for a stone-cold stunner!”
“Back To The Front” track listing:
01. Kill To Live
02. Bedlam Strike
03. The Underminer
04. Second To None
06. Waiting For Death
07. Eternal Woe
08. Digitus Medius
09. Vulture And The Traitor
10. Pandemic Rage
11. Soldier Of No Fortune
ADRENALINE MOB: New Song ‘Crystal Clear’ Available For Streaming

“Crystal Clear”, a brand new song from ADRENALINE MOB, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget at this location. The track is taken from the band’s second full-length album, “Men Of Honor”, which will be released February 18 in North America and February 24 internationally via Century Media Records.
ADRENALINE MOB‘s current lineup includes Russell Allen (vocals; also of SYMPHONY X), Mike Orlando (guitar), John Moyer (bass; also of DISTURBED), and the band’s latest addition, drummer A.J. Pero (also of TWISTED SISTER).
“Men Of Honor” features 11 new original songs produced by Allen and Orlando.
01. Mob Is Back
02. Come On Get Up
03. Dearly Departed
04. Behind These Eyes
05. Let It Go
06. Feel The Adrenaline
07. Men Of Honor
08. Crystal Clear
09. House Of Lies
10. Judgment Day
11. Fallin’ To Pieces
Drummer Mike Portnoy (FLYING COLORS, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) quit ADRENALINE MOB in June 2013 due to “scheduling conflicts.”
In an interview with Brazil’s “Wikimetal”, Allen stated about Portnoy‘s departure from ADRENALINE MOB: “He’s been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don’t wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn’t know when he will have the time again, so that’s really what’s going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB‘s debut album] ‘Omertá’ was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it’s a bummer, but he’s got his sights on other things, and he’s not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB‘s gotta go on.”
ADRENALINE MOB released “Covertá”, an eight-track EP featuring cover versions of some of the group’s favorite songs, on March 12, 2013.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY recently amicably parted ways with longtime guitarist Nick Catanese and replaced him with Dario Lorina (LIZZY BORDEN).
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde recently told Guitar World magazine about Catanese‘s departure: “I had called Nick to tell him about the album and he told me that he was already knees deep into doing his own thing and wanted to stick 1,000 percent into it. I told him it was cool and that we loved him and that he’d always have a home here.”
He continued: “The thing is no one ever gets kicked out or fired. If you want to go, you’re always able. Now we’ve got [guitarist] Dario Lorina in the band, and not only is he a kick-ass guitar player who can shred, but he’s also a really cool dude.”
Asked how he hooked up with Dario, Zakk said: “We never do a cattle call or anything like that. With the amount of awesome players I know, it’s more of a word-of-mouth kind of thing. I had him come out to the Vatican [Zakk‘s home studio] to meet him, and afterwards I said, ‘Cool. If you want to do it, you’re in.’ It was as simple as that.”
Wylde also spoke about what fans can expect to hear on “Catacombs Of The Black Vatican”.
“I think everyone can expect a lot of fun and excitement,” he laughed. “It was like what Chris Farley did in that one skit, where he was selling that hair-care product. Make sure you always use the word ‘fun’ when you describe it. [laughs]!
“Someone asked me what the difference was between this new record and the other nine. I told them that it’s basically all of the songs we used on the other nine records, except they’ve got different titles now. [laughs] It’s fun and exciting for the whole family!”
“Catacombs of the Black Vatican” is BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s first new studio album since 2009’s “The Order Of The Black”, which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s new live DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Video, “Unblackened”, was released on September 24, 2013 by Eagle Rock Entertainment. Wylde‘s label home, eOne Music, also released the audio version of the “Unblackened” DVD under the same name.
