SUIDAKRA: ‘Eternal Defiance’ Album Trailer Available

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

A trailer for “Eternal Defiance”, the new albnum from German melodic folk/death metallers SUIDAKRA, can be seen below. The CD will be released in May via AFM Records.

Commented SUIDAKRA singer Arkadius Antonik: “As on the previous two releases, it will be a concept album again, created by [famous Belgian graphic artist] Kris Verwimp in cooperation with us. Our new concept includes a lot of new elements and suprises which will be reflected in the music as well.”

In a 2012 interview with Metal Kaoz, Antonik stated about SUIDAKRA’s new material: “The songs we have finished [so far] are bombastic and we also finished the first song with Tina’s [Stabel] female vocals. This time, it’s gonna be a faster song with a real epic and catchy chorus.”

Bassist Marcus Riewaldt last year announced his departure from SUIDAKRA. He said in a statement, “After more than 250 shows and 10 years being in the band, I feel that now time has come to change my priorities a bit and see what else life has to offer for me. No hard feelings involved; it’s just that I cannot motivate myself for another writing-rehearsing-recording-promoting-touring cycle and that I’m really annoyed by some of the music business mechanisms that one has to deal with in order to continue this beautiful and exciting, but at the same time very time- and energy-consuming hobby. I wish SUIDAKRA much luck and success for the future — it would all be well deserved!”

SUIDAKRA has already secured a replacement bassist in Tim Siebrecht, who was a stand-in guitar player for SUIDAKRA on several occasions in recent years.

SUIDAKRA’s tenth album, “Book Of Dowth”, was released on March 25, 2011 via AFM Records.

SUFFOCATION: Second ‘Pinnacle Of Bedlam’ Trailer Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

A new three-minute trailer for “Pinnacle Of Bedlam”, the new album from New York death metal veterans SUFFOCATION, can be seen below. The CD will be released on February 15 via Nuclear Blast Records. The artwork was handled this time around by Raymond Swanland and can be found below.

Commented SUFFOCATION bassist Derek Boyer: “This artwork is a perfect portrayal of our music. The cover depicts lyrical content like ‘scales tip in degradation’ and ‘hooded messenger of death is now set forth, punishment for all.’ Raymond is an absolute BEAST of an artist!”

Added SUFFOCATION guitarist Guy Marchais: “The artwork for ‘Pinnacle’ brings another element to an already brutal album. Raymond knew exactly what we were looking for and delivered!”

“Pinnacle Of Bedlam” was produced by the band at Full Force Studios in New York with longtime collaborator Joe Cincotta. The mixing and mastering of the effort was handled by Chris “Zeuss” Harris (HATEBREED, ARSIS, SUICIDE SILENCE).

“Pinnacle Of Bedlam” features 10 genre-defining-bone-crushing tracks and also marks the return of drummer Dave Culross, who previously played on the “Despise The Sun” EP. Founding member and former drummer Mike Smith also makes a special guest appearance on the re-recorded “Breeding The Spawn” track “Beginning Of Sorrow”.

“Pinnacle Of Bedlam” track listing:

01. Cycles Of Suffering
02. Purgatorial Punishment
03. Eminent Wrath
04. As Grace Descends
05. Sullen Days
06. Pinnacle Of Bedlam
07. My Demise
08. Inversion
09. Rapture Of Revocation
10. Beginning Of Sorrow

Stated guitarist Terrance Hobbs: “The meaning of the album title ‘Pinnacle Of Bedlam’, is the tipping point or most elevated moment as we approach the chaotic climax of this existence. The cosmic scale teeters and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

“People should expect nothing less than sheer brutality, as we perform together with this incredible lineup! We feel this CD will be the best SUFFOCATION album ever to have been released and are confident the fans will love it.”

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS: New Album Title Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS — the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, along with vocalist Apollo Papathanasio (ex-FIREWIND) — is putting the finishing touches on its eighth studio album, “Earth Blues”, for a spring release via InsideOut Music.

The band will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the CD and by playing shows, including a European tour in April.

Commented Amott: “We started the recording process of ‘Earth Blues’ with an eight-day-long session at Fat Guitar Studios (Sweden) with knob-twiddler Roberth Ekholm, a truly great dude who really knows how to capture a band jamming live, sadly a rare quality in recording engineers nowadays! We continued with some overdubs at various studios in Sweden, and it’s all come together super easy this time. We’re finishing up the mixes now with Staffan Karlsson (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, SHINING, etc.) at his studio in Halmstad, Sweden. Sonically, I think this might be our finest hour yet. It’s a raw, heavy and honest record.”

In order to promote this upcoming release as well as the band’s anniversary, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS have confirmed a European tour for April with support by German rockers ZODIAC, as well as some European summer festivals.

European tour dates:

April 15 – Hamburg, Germany – Logo
April 16 – Köln, Germany – Underground
April 17 – Ludwigburg, Germany – Rockfabrik
April 18 – München, Germany – Backstage

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS in 2011 released a live CD entitled “Return To Live: Loud Park 2010” in Japan via Trooper Entertainment. The disc features eight songs, capturing the bands high-energy performance at Loud Park 10 at Saitama Super Arena, Japan on October 17, 2010. The live recording was mixed in Sweden by Staffan Karlsson and Rickard Bengtsson at Studio Landgren 5.3 and The Sweet Spot Studio in December 2010. The artwork and design was handled by Hippograffix.

The new lineup of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS made its live debut on October 1, 2010 at Kyttaro club in Athens, Greece.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS’s seventh studio album, “Return To Zero”, was released in Japan on August 25, 2010 via Trooper Entertainment Inc. — the label founded by legendary Japanese heavy metal music industry guru Tetsu Miyamoto. The Japanese special edition comes in a glossy paper box with a poster and a sticker of the CD front cover. The Japanese edition also features a bonus track, a thunderous cover of URIAH HEEP’s “Time To Live” off the legendary U.K. band’s 1971 “Salisbury” record.

“Return To Zero” was released in North America on October 12, 2010 via InsideOut Music. The follow-up to 2005’s “Demons” was recorded at Sweetspot Studio with producer Rickard Bengtsson.

AMORPHIS: ‘Circle’ Cover Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Finnish melancholic dark metal forerunners AMORPHIS have set “Circle” as the title of their eleventh album, due on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. Production and mixing duties for the follow-up to 2011’s “The Beginning Of Times” were handled by HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren, who has previously worked with such bands as CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR. The recordings took place at Petrax Studio (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) in Hollola and 5K Studios in Helsinki. The cover artwork was created by Tom Bates (BLEED FROM WITHIN, DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL) and can be seen below.

Commented AMORPHIS vocalist Tomi Joutsen: “The mystic, androgynous person on the cover represents a spiritual guide. This character was sent from another time and place to help the album’s protagonist find a new path for his life.”

“Circle” track listing:

01. Shades Of Gray
02. Mission
03. The Wanderer
04. Narrow Path
05. Hopeless Days
06. Nightbird’s Song
07. Into The Abyss\
08. Enchanted By The Moon
09. A New Day
10. Dead Man’s Dream (bonus track)

The album’s limited digibook version will come with a bonus DVD containing the following:

* The Making Of “Circle”
* Nightbird’s Song (video clip)

Apart from the CD+DVD digibook version, “Circle” will be available on CD (without the bonus track), black 2LP in gatefold, brown 2LP in gatefold and as a bulging limited box, including three bonus tracks and a wristband — exclusively via the Nuclear Blast mail order.

A short summary about the album’s concept/story that spreads throught out the lyrics by Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for most recent AMORPHIS albums: “The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival.”

Joutsen added about the album title: “‘Circle’ represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men’s circle.”

Regarding the direction of the new AMORPHIS material, the band’s guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen said: “While promoting ‘The Beginning Of Times’, we started to feel that we were giving the same explanations over and over again when people asked about the studio process and how the songs came about. Even though the music was very strong, the making process didn’t offer any surprises and appeared to be quite secured. Now the addition of a new dimension to the developing process has inspired us to focus on our material even more. The songs are extremely strong, bombastic and skull-pummelling.”

“The Beginning Of Times” entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 16 — the best chart position ever scored by an AMORPHIS album in that country. The CD also landed at position No. 1 on the Finnish chart.

THE FACELESS Drummer Quits

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Drummer Lyle Cooper has confirmed his departure from Los Angeles-based progressive death metal titans THE FACELESS.

Said Cooper in a statement: “After almost five years with the band, I’ve decided to part ways.

“Over the last couple of years it seemed that the interests, goals and musical approach of the band was not that of my own. Also, managerial issues became too frequent with no resolution. These issues, I felt, made it hard for me as an individual to produce as a creative and enthusiastic member.

“I’m sure that proceeding my departure, the band will have no trouble finding someone with the right mindset and talents to step in and keep the band moving forward.

“Thank you to the fans and everyone who supported THE FACELESS throughout the years. I wish the band and its members nothing but continued success and make sure you catch them on their upcoming tours. I will still be pursuing my other musical projects so look out for new ABSVRDIST and ABHORRENT this year.”

THE FACELESS’s third full-length album, “Autotheism”, was issued on August 14, 2012 via Sumerian Records. The band’s first release in over three years saw the group’s leader, Michael Keene, enlist a new vocalist, bassist and additional guitarist to help him see his musical vision come to fruition and these new members have delivered tenfold.

According to a press release, “Autotheism” is “a semi-conceptual record following a man’s journey of self-discovery and transformation into the all-powerful God of his reality. It starts with his realization of the power he possesses and moves through every step of an ever-evolving reality that the future may have in store. Musically, ‘Autotheism’ is expansive in all directions. It is a thought-provoking roller coaster with the occasional sledge hammer to the skull and contains more dynamics and diversity than any offering presented by THE FACELESS to date.”

LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH: ‘Baphometic Chaosium’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Baphometic Chaosium”, the first-ever music video from Los Angeles underground black metallers LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH, can be seen below. The clip was directed by co-founder and lead vocalist Autarch (a.k.a. the metal illustrator Farron Loathing). The project, which also marks Autarch’s directorial debut, is the result of a partnership between Farron Loathing and Mortichrome Films. It is described by its creator as “a psycho-dramatic interpretation of the Mass of Chaos and the invocation of Baphomet as performed by a collective of ritual performance artists.”

“Baphometic Chaosium” is the title track of LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH’s third full-length album, which was released on January 22 via Metal Blade Records. The band has appropriately become a five-piece (completing the pentacle) with the recruitment of lead guitarist “Inverted” Chris Velez, before it began developing what is described as “devotional work”, dedicated to their patron god — a mind-altering experience compelled by the embodiment of chaos, death and ecstasy. To record the psychedelic devilry, they returned to Trench Studios, with John Haddad again seeing to the engineering, with Roskva producing, no doubt to the delight of the tributed horned deity.

“Baphometic Chaosium” track listing:

01. Baphometic Chaosium
02. Acid Gate
03. Psychic Waters
04. Cloven Shields
05. Chained To Decay
06. R’Lyeh Wuurm
07. Epicyclarium
08. Oaken Chrysalis

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY has begun writing material for their next album, the follow-up to the well-received self-titled record released via Candlelight Records late February 2012, the reissue of their Eye For An Eye debut, and recently released Scion A/V EP Megalodon. The album, untitled at this time, will again feature the trio of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woodroe Weatherman, and drummer Reed Mullin.

Last week the band announced their first live performance for the New Year at the annual Metal Fest Chile on April 13th. It will be the first CORROSION OF CONFORMITY appearance ever in Chile. Mike Dean comments, “We have been talking about going to South American forever and with Chile being a big source of so much of our Facebook traffic, I know it’s going to be epic. Another chance for us to do a festival with Down is always a very good thing.”

The festival follows the completion of the band’s recent US tour that concluded in southern California alongside High On Fire. The trio was also a featured participant on Barge From Hell that left Florida shores on December 7. Dean notes, “The cruise was pretty awesome. We had Rick and Jonathan from Torche masquerading as our crew and watching their antics alone was worth the trip. The seas were calm so there was no hurling over the bow.”

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY continues to promote the self-titled album in interviews with media as well spreading word on their recently released Megalodon EP. The EP, sponsored by the amazing folks at Scion A/V, is available for free now via various outlets. Dean says, “The EP was written, recorded, and released in two months time. It really challenged us in a good way. It feels good to get two releases out in one year and I expect that we will continue that level of productivity.” Continuing he shares, “The self-titled album is holding up very well for me. There is a wide variety of material there. It’s all definitely COC but at the same time everything is really a stretch for us. Within the realm of never being totally satisfied, I am very happy with how it came out.”

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States alone, the band continues to find new fans via non-stop touring.
