TOXIC HOLOCAUST Releases Lyric Video For “Agony of the Damned”

Portland’s favorite punk/metal delinquents TOXIC HOLOCAUST recently unleashed a new lyric video for “Agony of the Damned.” Initially featured on the band’s 2011Conjure and Command full-length,“Agony Of The Damned” makes an “updated” appearance on the From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction compilation, set for release via Relapse Records next month.

Elaborates band mastermind Joel Grind: “This version of ‘Agony of the Damned’ was recorded in September of 2010 with a drum machine a few months before we stepped into the studio to record the one that appears on Conjure and Command. When making an album, I usually demo out the entire thing before I step into a studio. This keeps costs low and gives me time to sit with it to iron out the details. Since Conjure and Command was the first TOXIC record to feature a full band, this demo served the purpose of familiarizing everyone with the new material and is previously unreleased.”

From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction is a gargantuan 22-track anthology that compiles over a decade’s worth of TOXIC HOLOCAUSTrarities into one raging compilation of antagonistic bliss. Amassing the band’s many contributions to various comps and vinyl-only splits with the likes of Municipal Waste, Midnight and others, alongside demo versions of treasured TOXIC classics, From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction is a historic romp through the history of one of today’s most revered, gritty, old-school metal bands.

From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction will see release through Relapse Records on April 2nd in North America, March 29th in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Benelux and April 1st in the UK. Additionally, you can check out the From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction teaser video and ordering info HERE.

TOXIC HOLOCAUST is currently in the studio working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to their 2011 Conjure And Command full-length. Praised for its “nuclear reactive riffage and Repo Man punk attitude,” by Revolver and commended for its “tar-thick riffage, staggering breakdowns, and a corroded dose of self-loathing,” by The Onion’s A.V. Club, Conjure And Command continues to reap hails from fans and critics globally. As an added bonus, the band closed the year with the honor of having the song “Bitch” rear its sonic apocalyptic menace in an episode of high-rated FX drama series Sons Of Anarchy (season 5; episode 11).

TOXIC HOLOCAUST mutated into existence in 1999, when Joel Grind merged his love for classic punk and metal into his ideal band. Like his influences – Bathory, Venom, English Dogs, Possessed, Broken Bones – TOXIC HOLOCAUST offers up blazing riffs, gravel-throated vocals, and a deadly fixation on the evil in man and a post-apocalyptic world wrapped in a DIY attitude.

The “Novum Initium” digipack cover artwork can be seen below.

The band last month filmed a video for the song ” Keep Your Dream Alive” in the Luftverteidigungsbunker Erndtebrück, also called “Bunker Erich.”

A photo of MASTERPLAN‘s new lineup can be seen below. Joining drummerMartin “Marthus” Skaroupka (CRADLE OF FILTH) are vocalist Rick Altzi(AT VANCESANDALINASTHUNDERSTONE), who replaces Jorn Lande, and bassist Jari Kainulainen (STRATOVARIUSSYMFONIADEVIL’S TRAIN).

In a recent interview with Metal Shock FinlandMASTERPLANguitarist/leader Roland Grapow stated about the band’s new CD: “We are not leaving the MASTERPLAN path too much, but everything we have — the melodic part and a little bit progressive — I would say we’re a little bit more powerful and I’m also mixing the album this time. I want to get a little bit more modern, as the sound we have was created ten years ago. We’re still having the typical sound with melodies, but the drummer is amazing and plays a lot of crazy shit!”

MASTERPLAN‘s new lineup:

Rick Altzi – vocals
Roland Grapow – guitars
Axel Mackenrott – keyboards
Jari Kainulainen – bass
Martin “Marthus” Skaroupka – drums

In an August 2011 interview with the Czech web portal Kultura21.cz,Grapow stated about MASTERPLAN‘s numerous lineup changes: “I think it’s always difficult in this band, I guess. If you see, the first album just came out after a big turbulence — leaving HELLOWEENUli [Kusch, drums] and me. I think this band always needs some very bad moments to some great songs. [laughs] And it looks like MASTERPLAN, basically, is my main band, and whoever will sing and whoever will play in the band, I’m happy with. But, basically, at the moment, I’m thinking the main songwriters are Axel now and me. So whatever happens, this band will continue. It’s very important for me to show that we still have the power and the ability to write beautiful melodies and some aggression and rock and metal songs. Whatever we do, we want just to make good-quality stuff.”

MASTERPLAN‘s last CD, “Time To Be King”, was released on May 21, 2010 through AFM Records. The CD’s first single, “Far From The End Of The World”, was issued on April 16, 2010.

The monstrous limited edition 7xLP box set discography will contain all fiveSTRAPPING YOUNG LAD full-lengths, as well as extra vinyl dedicated to the band’s non-album material. The “mystery” seventh LP contains virtually every SYL bonus track that ever existed, remastered for vinyl.

The track listing for the “Demos & Rarities” LP is as follows:

01. Japan
02. Monday
03. Exciter
04. Centipede

06. Headrhoid (Gunt demo)
07. Detox (’96 demo)
08. AAA (’96 demo)
09. The Long Pig
10. Zodiac

The genre-busting Canadian industrial/death band has never seen their seminal albums “Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing”“SYL” nor “The New Black” touch wax before. Their other two records — “City” and “Alien”— were pressed in ultra-limited numbers of 500 copies only and sold out within months of their release.

The front cover for every STRAPPING YOUNG LAD album was re-designed and re-imagined for the new SYL “The Complete Works” box set byTravis Smith of Seempieces in conjunction with Devin Townsend andJed Simon of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and Blood Music, compiling the pieces into a uniform collection. The designs were based on the albums’ original artworks and aural feeling.

STRAPPING YOUNG LAD was a heavily-loved Canadian extreme metal band who genre-bent from progressive death to industrial metal in the blink of an eye. They are most well-known for their unique leader, Devin Townsend, whose dark lyrical humor and insane stage antics catapulted them into every ’90s high school metalhead’s dreams. Townsend has gone on to further acclaim in his solo act, DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT.

In a recent Twitter posting, Devin stated about the possibility of newSTRAPPING YOUNG LAD tours and music: “I’m not doing SYL anymore as I’m not at that point of my life anymore. Nothing to do with ‘anger’ etc. I have changed. I like to think as folks get older, most people accept change. I love the band, I just am not the same dude anymore.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY: ‘Construct’ Album Details Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY will release their tenth studio album, “Construct”, on May 27 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Jens Bogren (PARADISE LOSTOPETH,KATATONIA) at his Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden.

A trailer for “Construct” can be seen below.

Commented the band: “The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting DARK TRANQUILLITYalbum in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the DARK TRANQUILLITY, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999’s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the tracklist, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.”

“Construct” track listing:

01. For Broken Words
02. The Science Of Noise
03. Uniformity
04. The Silence In Between
05. Apathetic
06. What Only You Know
07. Endtime Hearts
08. State Of Trust
09. Weight Of The End
10. None Becoming
11. Immemorial (U.S. bonus track)
12. Photon Dreams (U.S. bonus track)

DARK TRANQUILLITY recently amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson. According to the band, “Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects as well as working more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that the playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion. With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY‘s next live appearance is scheduled for April in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Some European summer festivals are already announced and the band is also working on a North American tour for September.

DARK TRANQUILLITY digitally released the “Zero Distance” EP on October 22, 2012 in North America. Taken from the European tour edition of “We Are The Void” (2010), the five tracks on the EP are a must-have for any diehard DARK TRANQUILLITY fan.

DARK TRANQUILLITY‘s ninth CD, “We Are The Void”, sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The effort landed at position No. 15 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

AYREON: New Album Title Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Dutch guitarist/composer Arjen Lucassen has set “The Theory Of Everything” as the title of the new AYREON album, tentatively due in the fall.

Regarding the progress of the songwriting sessions for the upcoming effort, Lucassen said: “I’ve finished recording demos of the music, and am now about halfway finished with the lyrics. It’s going to be a double album, so there is a lot to write! It’s extra challenging as well, because lyrically I’ve left the old AYREON universe behind and have to create a new one from scratch. I’m really excited about the lineup and how everything is progressing so far.”

AYREON‘s latest album, “01011001” (2008), sold 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 32 on the the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart (which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200).

AYREON‘s 3CD + DVD compilation album entitled “Timeline” came out in November 2008. The set followed the thirteen-year evolution of theAYREON sound from the 1995 debut “The Final Experiment” to the release of “01011001”. In addition to selecting tracks from the existingAYREON discography, Arjen also wrote and recorded a new AYREONsong exclusively for “Timeline”. Titled “Epilogue: The Memory Remains”, this previously unreleased nine-plus-minute track introducedAYREON fans to the clear, powerful voice of Jasper Steverlinck (ARID).

CATHEDRAL: ‘Tower Of Silence’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

British doom legends CATHEDRAL will release their final studio album, “The Last Spire”, on April 30 via Rise Above Records. Recorded at Orgone Studios in London, produced by Lee Dorrian and Garry Jennings with assistance, mixing by Jamie Gomez Arellano, and art by Dave Patchettand Arik Roper, “The Last Spire” will stand as the band’s final effort.

CATHEDRAL recently filmed its final music video, “Tower Of Silence”, which was inspired by classic cult British film institutions such as“Amicus” and “Hammer House of Horror”. The clip was shot on location during the British Winter of 2012 at Gunnersbury Park Tower, London. It features a guest appearance from Purson’s Rosalie Cunningham, who places a symbolic black orchid on the tombstone of each member in the clips closing scenes.

Directed by U.K.-based Paraffin City Productions, the “Tower Of Silence” clip can be viewed below.

“The Last Spire” track listing:

01. Entrance To Hell
02. Pallbearer
03. Cathedral Of The Damned
04. Tower Of Silence
05. Infestation Of Grey Death
06. An Observation
07. The Last Laugh
08. This Body, Thy Tomb

And lo, Lee Dorrian, mouthpiece of CATHEDRAL for 23 years, doth solemnly intone the death rites of this mighty British metal titan. Born in the dying days of Thatcher‘s Britain, bonding over then-unfashionable, obscure names like SAINT VITUSPENTAGRAMTROUBLE and DREAM DEATHCATHEDRAL‘s sole ambition was to record a demo tape. In fact they revolutionized doom metal, first pushing their influences into new avenues of grinding extremity, then pioneering groovier forms of ’70s-indebted stoner doom.

Lee Dorrian says: “When the last mix was finally done, there was a massive sense of relief. I think this was partly due to the fact that it meant CATHEDRAL could finally be put to rest but also because we felt we’d done something that we were all very pleased with. I feel comfortable leaving ‘The Last Spire’ as our legacy.” Dorrian continues, “The funeral of CATHEDRAL has been a long but gratifying process. Deciding to end the band wasn’t an easy decision to make but we knew deep down in our hearts that it was the right thing to do.”

“The Last Spire” was recorded by:

Lead Vocals – Lee Dorrian
Guitars – Garry Jennings
Bass – Scott Carlson
Drums – Brian Dixon
Hammond, Mellotron, Moog & Synths – David Moore
Guest Vocals on ‘Cathedral Of The Damned’ – Chris Reifert
Backing Vocals – Rosalie Cunningham

CATHEDRAL recently released its first new recorded material in three years exclusively via Decibel magazine’s subscriber-only Decibel Flexi Series. The song, “Vengeance Of The Blind Dead”, can be heard in the flexi included in the February 2013 issue. The track is also streaming onDecibel‘s SoundCloud page. Limited quantities of the issue with the flexi can be ordered on DecibelMagazine.com.

IMMOLATION: Official ‘Kingdom Of Conspiracy’ Lyric Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

New York death metal veterans IMMOLATION will release their ninth full-length album, “Kingdom Of Conspiracy”, on May 14 in North America, both digitally and physically, via Nuclear Blast Records. The The follow-up to 2010’s “Majesty And Decay” was recorded at Sound Studios in Millbrook, New York with longtime producer Paul Orofino, and mixed and mastered once again by Zack Ohren (ALL SHALL PERISHDECREPIT BIRTHSUFFOCATION).

The official lyric video for the “Kingdom Of Conspiracy” title track can be seen below.

The CD cover imagery was brought to life this time by Pär Olofsson, who has previously worked with IMMORTALTHE FACELESS and ABYSMAL DAWN, among others.

“The figures in the artwork have all been bound and chained and have their eyes and mouths sewn shut symbolically, showing the chilling of speech and the intentional blinding of the masses,” explains IMMOLATIONguitarist Robert Vigna. “They all make up the huge ominous structure behind them, which is symbolic of the growing security state as well as our failing structures today, and how they are slowly and methodically consuming and controlling us all. It has a very Orwellian feel to it, which is what we were going for since the album is very dark in a slightly different way.”

In regards to “Kingdom Of Conspiracy”‘s lyrical content, Vigna says: “The album deals with the world today and the slow unraveling and breakdown of our societies and the systems and structures behind them. It speaks of the human side to all this and how we have all lost our way and have fed into these very systems that are slowly coming apart. This is the common thread running throughout the album and the cover paints a very dark picture of the future, where these systems have completely absorbed our world, and our freedoms and we have become a part of the very fabric of these structures that we have created. Each song is a symptom of this mass sickness that has brought the world to the point it is at now, and we paint a very bleak picture of this slow and gradual breakdown and the human failures that sped this process along. This is the‘Kingdom Of Conspiracy’.”

“Kingdom Of Conspiracy” track listing:

01. Echoes Of Despair
02. Keep The Silence
03. Kingdom Of Conspiracy
04. Serving Divinity
05. The Great Sleep
06. Indoctrinate
07. A Spectacle of Lies
08. God Complex
09. Bound To Order
10. All That Awaits
