PESTILENCE: MetalSucks Premieres “Aura Negative;” New Full-Length Nears Release
With the official North American release of their new full-length, Obsideo, nearly two weeks away, today the miscreants at MetalSucks offer up a premiere of “Aura Negative” from Dutch progressive metal extremists, PESTILENCE.
Produced by vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli, Obsideo, which means “to besiege,” is the band’s inaugural recording for Candlelight Records and first new material from the four-piece since 2011. Obsideo boasts Mameli and his innovative guitar work. Utilizing eight-string guitars for the album’s recording, the celebrated musician expands his already massive arsenal of riffs. Together with long-time guitarist Patrick Uterwijk, Mameli, bassist George Maier and drummer Dave Haley deliver a scorching, genre-defying effort. Apeshit calls Obsideo, “one of the catchiest death metal albums to come along recently,” and, “a good return to form for one of the genre’s pioneers,” while AngryMetalGuy elaborates, “New drummer David Haly (Blood Duster, Psycroptic) is a Godsend and throws down a whirlwind of dynamic fills and rolls while laying waste to his kit in service of these hyper-kinetic nuggets of mayhem. I found my ears locking into to what the drums were doing way more than usual, and with so much else going on, that’s a testament to his performance.” Adds Metal Reviews, “Obsideo has smoothly combined both sides of the PESTILENCE sound, old and new, and the resulting merger sounds pretty damn good.”
Formed in 1986, PESTILENCE took influence from early American and German thrash metal to cultivate its now signature death metal sound. Recording four albums before disbanding in 1994, the band helped to usher the rise in popularity for the genre. Fourteen years later the band reformed; releasing two albums and exciting fans with live performances around the globe. “Mameli and company chose to steer efforts down paths previously unexplored whilst maintaining their vintage essence,” noted Chronicles of Chaos on the band’s 2009 album, Resurrection Macabre (Mascot). PESTILENCE plans to begin touring in support ofObsideo in the early months of 2014 with North America to be included in their worldwide takeover.
Obsideo will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on November 11th.
ADRENALINE MOB To Release New Album In February
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
ADRENALINE MOB is scheduled to release its sophomore album on February 18, 2014 through an as-yet-undisclosed label.
The band’s current lineup includes Russell Allen (vocals; also of SYMPHONY X), Mike Orlando (guitar) and John Moyer (bass; also of DISTURBED).
Drummer Mike Portnoy (FLYING COLORS, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) quit ADRENALINE MOB in June due to “scheduling conflicts.” A replacement drummer has not yet been announced.
The first photo of the new ADRENALINE MOB lineup can be seen below.
In a recent interview with Brazil’s “Wikimetal”, Allen stated about Portnoy‘s departure from ADRENALINE MOB: “He’s been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don’t wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn’t know when he will have the time again, so that’s really what’s going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB‘s debut album] ‘Omertá’ was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it’s a bummer, but he’s got his sights on other things, and he’s not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB‘s gotta go on.”
ADRENALINE MOB released “Covertá”, an eight-track EP featuring cover versions of some of the group’s favorite songs, on March 12.
METALLICA To Release ‘Through The Never’ Soundtrack Vinyl For Record Store Day’s ‘Black Friday’
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
As part of Record Store Day’s “Black Friday” event on November 29, METALLICA will release a 4xLP 45rpm 180-gram numbered limited vinyl edition of “Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)”, the soundtrack companion to the groundbreaking 3D feature film “Metallica Through The Never”. The release is limited to only 4000 copies.
Asked about the fact that METALLICA was the first big band to support Record Store Day, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told Q magazine: “Speaking just for me, I’ve been collecting records since I was nine, and records have just been such a significant part of my life. It’s the reason I wanted to be in a band, so stepping up and helping out Record Store Day is what METALLICA call a ‘no-brainer.’”
Added METALLICA frontman James Hetfield: “For me, it was when my daughter wanted a turntable. I was, like, [shouts] ‘Yes!’ I took her to Amoeba Records in San Francisco. She got home and played some vinyl albums on her new turntable. Then about two days later, she said, ‘Dad, there’s songs on the other side!’ [laughs] Yeah, alright!”
“Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)” sold around 25,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on September 24 via the band’s own record label Blackened Recordings.
A two-disc CD set, “Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)” highlights last year’s career-spanning concerts at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed all performance footage featured in the film.
“Metallica Through The Never” stars METALLICA, one of the most popular, influential rock bands in history. In this music-driven, 3D motion picture event, award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal immerses audiences in a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience with spectacular live performance footage of METALLICA‘s most iconic songs — created exclusively for film — combined with a bold, narrative story featuring imagery drawn from the band’s trailblazing iconography. Dane DeHaan portrays Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission, during METALLICA‘s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. The film features dazzling pyrotechnics, the most elaborate live-performance stage ever built and state-of-the-art 3-D photography, captured using up to 24 cameras simultaneously.
Picturehouse released “Metallica Through The Never” in North America on September 27 exclusively in over 300 IMAX 3D Theatres, and it expanded into additional theaters on October 4.

EYEHATEGOD Announces New Drummer
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Following an intensely moving Joey LaCaze tribute performance at the first annual Housecore Horror Film Festival this past weekend, a set which featured Dale Crover from the mighty MELVINS holding down the drum kit, EYEHATEGOD continues moving forward with new drummer Aaron Hill. Hill comes by way of New Orleans’ local acts MISSING MONUMENTS and MOUNTAIN OF WIZARD.
Hill will play his first official show with EYEHATEGOD tonight at the world famous House Of Shock with horror surf band THE UNNATURALS. From there, the band will ride on to take Columbus’ Arosa Villa on November 1 and bring things to a chaotic close with two back-to-back nights of mischief at Chicago’s Cobra Lounge November 2 and November 3. Later next month, EYEHATEGOD will stomp their way through Brooklyn, New York; West Chester, Pennsylvania; and Quincy, Massachusetts; with additional live takeovers to be announced in the weeks to come.
The ever-elusive new EYEHATEGOD LP is moving closer to release, with mixes being done by renowned sound wizard Sanford Parker as we speak.
LaCaze passed away on August 23 in New Orleans after a very successful five-week U.K. and European tour with EYEHATEGOD. He also performed ceremonial voodoo drumming and in numerous solo experimental electronic projects. Doctors confirmed to family members the cause as respiratory failure. He also suffered from severe long-term asthma.
DEICIDE: ‘Thou Begone’ Lyric Video Released
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Florida death metal veterans DEICIDE will release their new album, “In The Minds Of Evil”, on November 25 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER).
“In The Minds Of Evil” track listing:
01. In The Minds Of Evil
02. Thou Begone
04. Beyond Salvation
05. Misery Of One
06. Between The Flesh And The Void
07. Even The Gods Can Bleed
08. Trample The Cross
09. Banished By Evil
10. Kill The Light Of Christ
11. End The Wrath Of God
The official lyric video for the song “Thou Begone” can be seen at this location.
The cover artwork (see below) was taken from Australian artist Simon Cowell‘s painting Power Of The Mind, and offers a fitting face to the album’s 11 tracks.
DEICIDE drummer Steve Asheim recently told Decibel magazine about the band’s working relationship with Suecof: “It’s awesome! I’ve known Jason since ‘08. I had been going out to do the ORDER OF ENNEAD records with him. The last DEICIDE record we did with Mark [Lewis], but I’ve known Jason a long time, so I asked him if he was into it. He said, ‘Absolutely!’ I wanted to get one done ovith him before something happens. You never know.”
Regarding the lyrical themes covered on the new DEICIDE album, Asheim said: “[The lyrics] are typical Glen Benton. Blasphemous, brutal rhetoric. We’re going to get down and dirty this Blasphemous, brutal rhetoric. We’re going to get down and dirty this time around, so expect the lyrics to be brutal.”
According to Asheim, longtime fans will pick up on nuances inspired by the almighty “Legion” effort. “Jason wanted to capture the ‘Legion’ feel,” the drummer said. “We’re wanting Glen‘s vocals to sound more old-school. So, it’s a bit of the new with a little throwback action.”
As for DEICIDE‘s time at Audiohammer, Asheim said: “It’s pretty cut-and-dried these days. I’ve known Jason a few years. I kind of know his methodology, how he works. It’s a far drive, so we’ll spend two or three nights there. Once we knock it out, we’ll end up partying. We repeat that the next day.”
“To Hell With God” sold 2,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release.
DEICIDE‘s previous CD, “Till Death Do Us Part”, opened with 2,900 copies back in May 2008.
IMPENDING DOOM: ‘Doomsday’ Video Available
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
“Doomsday”, the new video from Southern California juggernauts IMPENDING DOOM, can be seen at this location. The song comes off the band’s new album, “Death Will Reign”, which is due on November 5 via eOne Music. The CD was recorded, produced and mixed by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (SUICIDE SILENCE, LAMB OF GOD).
“IMPENDING DOOM have never sounded uglier and more desperate than on ‘Death Will Reign’,” says Alternative Press.
IMPENDING DOOM has crafted a stunning, deliberate and unrelenting collection with a sense of purpose, drive and continuity. “Death Will Reign” is the culmination of all that has come before, mining the bleak darkness and “scare” factor of last year’s “Baptized in Filth” and the dynamic fury of “There Will Be Violence” and “The Serpent Servant”. All of those elements are injected with the return of the gritty rawness found within the unpolished grind of “Nailed. Dead. Risen”, IMPENDING DOOM‘s squealing cult-classic debut that introduced the world to their unique combination of reverent worship and sick gore-core, dubbed Goreship.
“We wanted this album to sound very natural and unpolished,” explains IMPENDING DOOM‘s longtime bassist David Sittig, a part of the lineup since before the first album’s release. “There’s no crazy digital stuff. There are no fake drums. We wanted it to have the feel of our first album with the songwriting from the last one. We’ve gotten better at song structures and so forth over the years, but we wanted to recapture that old-school vibe, too.”
IMPENDING DOOM‘s fourth full-length album, “Baptized In Filth”, sold 4,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on March 13, 2012, the CD was produced by Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THE FAMINE) and was mixed by Machine, who has previously worked with LAMB OF GOD, SUICIDE SILENCE and DEMON HUNTER, among others.
NEWSTED: ‘King Of The Underdogs’ Video Released
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
“King Of The Underdogs”, the new video from NEWSTED — the new band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — can be seen at this location. The clip was filmed in September in Oakland, California with director Leon Melas, who previously helmed NEWSTED‘s video for the track “Soldierhead”.
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Newsted stated about the lyrical inspiration for “King Of The Underdogs”: “‘King Of The Underdogs’ is kind of a personal thing almost. It’s, like, the highest rated of the underrated. I think people are rooting for me to win as they do with underdogs.”
“King Of The Underdogs” is featured on NEWSTED‘s debut album, “Heavy Metal Music”, which sold nearly 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 40 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available on August 6 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album was very similar to the band’s debut EP, “Metal”, which opened with around 6,200 units to debut at No. 62. “The EP was always intended to be the primer, a sampler of what was to come on the LP,” he said. “It’s all metal all the time. It’s not all fast, but it is all heavy.”
Regarding how the material for NEWSTED‘s debut album came together, Jason told Loudwire: “It started out as my seeds for the first eleven songs that I made on my GarageBand thing. I wrote all the tracks — guitars, bass, drums, everything and gave them to Jessie [Farnsworth, guitar] and Jesus [Mendez Jr., drums] and had them go learn it, put their artistry on it and so it was collaborative in that way for the first batch. Like the four songs on the EP came from that initial eleven, so that’s how those songs went. Each day as we get deeper into the songs, the collaboration gets deeper as well. I have come a long way from my tunnel vision of ‘Only my ideas are good enough’ bullshit, and I’m a lot more open to everyone’s ideas and the artistry of each person to make it what it is. And three heads is better than one and that kind of thing. So it has become more collaborative as we go. I’ve written ten more since that time in October last year and a few of them have made their way onto this LP now. Once again, they were all my seeds, but now that we have Mike Mushok in the band and I give the music to all three of those guys, now I have three great artists bringing back their responses and their counterpoint playing to my ideas, so it’s becoming more and more collaborative every day and on this LP there will be shared writing credits on at least half of the songs with the writing credits now.”
“Heavy Metal Music” track listing:
01. Heroic Dose
03. …As The Crow Flies
05. Long Time Dead
06. Above All
07. King Of The Underdogs
09. Twisted Tail Of The Comet
NEWSTED took part in this year’s edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill were headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH and DEATH DIVISION.
MALEVOLENT CREATION Completes Recording New Song ‘Corporate Weaponry’
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Florida-based death metal veterans MALEVOLENT CREATION have finished mixing a brand new song called “Corporate Weaponry”. The track, which is currently being mastered by Eric Koondel, will be made available — along with the previously released new cut “Face Your Fear” — for download on iTunes and other online outlets within a few weeks. A full-length album will follow next year.
“Face Your Fear”, which can be streamed at this location, was recorded, produced and mixed at drummer Gus Rios‘ studio, Riversound Productions, except for the vocals, which were laid down with Jim Nickles at his Shredly Studios.
“This is only one song of many Phil [Fasciana, guitar] and I are working on,” Gus Rios told Decibel back in August.
“We are still debating how we are going to go about releasing new music.
“For a band like ours, with 11 albums and more than 110 songs, it’s just not making sense to record 10 new songs. We are thinking (still not 100%) that doing EPs might be the way. That way we can concentrate on writing five really good songs and play them all live as well.
“We don’t want to be a band that has to rely on its past. We want to write songs that are good enough that people will want to hear them live, as well as the ‘classics.’ And realistically, we would only do about five songs off of any new album anyway due to the extensive catalog.”
Regarding how MALEVOLENT CREATION has managed to retain its musical identity after going through so many lineup changes over the course of the last 20 years, Gus Rios told Rádio Evil: “Since 1997, pretty much every single MALEVOLENT CREATION song anybody’s ever heard, me and Phil [Fasciana, guitar] actually wrote. I live in Fort Lauderdale, and so does Phil, and that’s the songwriting nucleus of MALEVOLENT. So as long as the two of us are still in the band, it’s always gonna sound like MALEVOLENT CREATION, you know what I mean?! That’s the consistency of the band — the primary songwriters. And then, of course, Brett [Hoffman, vocals].”
MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s latest album, “Invidious Dominion”, was released in August 2010 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe through Massacre). The effort was made available in various territories as a regular CD; digipack with bonus material; and vinyl LP.
“Invidious Dominion” was recorded at Mana Recording Studios (CANNIBAL CORPSE, VITAL REMAINS, GOATWHORE) in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (MORBID ANGEL, HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE). The CD’s cover art was created by renowned artist Pär Olofsson (THE FACELESS, IMMORTAL, ABYSMAL DAWN).
