GWAR Officially Unveils New Guitarist

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

It was a little less than a year ago that the world was rocked by the passing of Flattus Maximus, back to the cosmos from whence he came. And since that day fans of GWAR have wondered how the mighty overlords of GWAR would deal with the void it left within the band. GWAR responded the only way they knew how — by soldiering on-and continued to play as a four-piece. But from the very beginning of that phase, the quest began to find the new Scumdog that was in every way as magnificent as his predecessor. Today the members of GWAR are pleased to inform their legions of followers, and even more so their many enemies, that once again the band is whole, with the proclamation that long-lost cousin of Flattus, Pustulus Maximus, has officially joined the band in the position of lead guitarist, and will join with the group on their upcoming “Fate Or Chaos” tour.

Pustulus offered his first words to the press with the following, “At this point I have nothing to say to the press, even though I am talking to you. I will let my guitar speak for itself. But let me add that I am blood-sworn to honor the legacy of the great Flattus and indeed the whole Maximus tribe. I didn’t come here to fuck around. HAIL FLATTUS!”

But how did all of this come to pass? It was easy to get a quote from GWAR lead singer, Oderus Urungus.

“Naturally, we were devastated by the passing of Flattus,” he said. “But we turned that grief into rage and set about the task of finding a new guitar player. The first thing we did was sound the mighty Horn of Hate, and alert all Scumdogs, scattered across the galaxy as they are, as to what had occurred. What people didn’t know about Flattus was that was is part of a huge tribe of brutish warriors, The Maximus Clan. They are at the core of any Scumdog Legion worth its blood! Planet Maximus is just crawling with them!”

Oderus farted, blowing a hole in the wall, and continued. “Many of the tribe had fought and even played in bands with Flattus, and we began to get messages from across the stars. The Scumdogs were coming! Coming to Earth to lay tracks on our new album, and pay tribute to the mighty Flattus. Soon the War-Barges of Maximus tribe members began to appear in Earth’s orbit…and land outside our great temple! Bubonis, Infectitcus, Fartacus, and many more-all have participated in the creation of the songs that shall be on our new album, which will be out sometime next year. But it was not until the hulking form of Pustulus appeared at the studio door, bloody guitar in hand, that we knew we had our new member. Here was a being that was supposedly born with a guitar in his fist, which of course resulted in the death of his beloved mother, whose body he immediately devoured. If anyone can replace our beloved comrade, it is this foul creature. Because he can fucking shred.”

Little else is known about this being, other than that he has a skin condition where his face and feet are covered in painful pustules that can only be soothed by the application of savage metal, spoiled elephant semen or oral sex. Pustulus is also rumored to be half-deaf, which leads him to yell at everyone, which he does often, because he is convinced everyone in the band is ignoring him when actually he just can’t hear what they are saying. It is not known whether he crashed his Scumship into Antarctica or wandered up from the depths of GWAR’s Antarctic fortress — all that is known is that he is here, now, and is ready to ROCK.

But GWAR fans wont have to wait until the tour to witness the ax-mastery of Pustulus. Make sure to visit The A.V. Club tomorrow to see Pustulus as he shreds for the first time with his Scumdog Brothers in GWAR on a very special song that no other band would play, because it is so fucking hard. Unless, of course, you are GWAR.

NIGHTWISH Parts Ways With Singer ANETTE OLZON

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH have issued the following statement:

“Another chapter of the NIGHTWISH story has ended today. NIGHTWISH and [singer] Anette Olzon have decided to part company, in mutual understanding, for the good of all parties involved.

“In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover.

“NIGHTWISH has no intention of canceling any upcoming shows, and as a result we have decided to bring in a substitute vocalist starting in Seattle on October 1. Her name is Floor Jansen (ex-AFTER FOREVER, REVAMP) from the Netherlands, and she has graciously stepped in to help us complete the ‘Imaginaerum’ world tour.

“We are all strongly committed to this journey, this vehicle of spirit, and we are sure that this will lead to a brighter future for everyone.

“We forever remain excited about the adventures to come, and we are extremely proud of the two beautiful albums and the wonderful shows we shared together.”

KAMELOT backing singers Elize Ryd (also of AMARANTHE) and Alissa White-Gluz (also of THE AGONIST) stepped in for Anette this past Friday night (September 28) at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado because Olzon was suffering from fever and vomiting and was forced to spend the night at a local hospital. The rest of NIGHTWISH stated about their decision to use stand-in vocalists for the gig, “We were in hell [on Friday]. [The] show [was] about to be canceled… But nobody gave up an inch. With the help from the ladies Elize and Alissa from KAMELOT, we actually managed to pull of a relaxed and great show! The crowd doing the mass karaoke with the band playing was absolutely amazing. We were humbled and grateful at the same time. This is unity and help from friends and fans.”

Writing on her official blog, Olzon voiced her displeasure over the fact that NIGHTWISH played a concert without her, stating, “I was never asked if it was OK they used Elize and Alissa in the show [Friday] night. I don’t think it’s a good decision they made and I’m sorry for those of you who came to see the whole band but got something else. But I was very ill and this decision wasn’t mine.’

She continued in a separate posting, “This is just music. Like life, sometimes we get ill and shows do get canceled. Rihanna wouldn’t ask Britney Spears to sing for her if she was ill.”

She concluded, “To think a show is more important than the humans in the band is, for me, so totally not in this world.”

Olzon rejoined NIGHTWISH on stage this past Saturday night (September 29) at The Complex in Salt Lake City, Utah. She wrote on her blog after the concert, “Sorry for not being in top form, but I did my best at least.”

Olzon joined NIGHTWISH in 2007 as the replacement for Tarja Turunen after the latter was fired in 2005.

D.R.I. Guitarist Undergoes Emergency Surgery

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Founding member and guitarist Spike Cassidy of hardcore/metal crossover pioneers D.R.I. (DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES) underwent emergency surgery late last week for a severe blockage caused by the reversal surgery he had just three weeks earlier. He is now in a regular hospital room being watched closely for signs of infection since his intestines were so stretched out from the blockage.

Commented Spike’s fiancée, Jana Perry: “[Spike’s] prognosis is good. However, he will need to stay in the hospital another week, give or take a couple days.

“Needless to say, all D.R.I. shows that are scheduled for the month of October are now canceled and hopefully we can re schedule them all at a later date.

“We are bummed. We were looking forward to seeing friends and doing to those shows.

In 2004, Cassidy was diagnosed with colon cancer. He underwent surgery (a one-foot section of large intestine was removed through an eight-inch incision in his stomach on March 27, 2006), radiation and chemotherapy and was previously said to be winning the battle against the disease.

For more information on how you can donate to the Spike Cassidy Cancer Relief Fund, go to this location.

D.R.I.’s classic 1987 album “Crossover” was reissued in April 2010 via Beer City Records. Available on LP, CD and as a digital download, the LP was remastered by Bill Metoyer, who was the engineer for the original recordings. The CD and digital version of the reissue include the original 13 songs plus 11 bonus tracks.

For the past 29 years, D.R.I. has been the epitome of the aggressive, hardcore-punk thrash sound that we’ve all become accustomed to hearing. Throughout this time, they’ve been one of the few genuine underground bands to remain true to their pure punk roots. Still actively touring and recording, the only thing that may have changed is that they’re a little older now, but time hasn’t gotten the best of the DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES. They’re still thrashing just as hard, and just as loud as ever, continuing to overload our senses with the sound that is, and will always remain, uniquely D.R.I.
