Infernal Execrator is quickly becoming a household name in the Singapore extreme metal circle over the years, along with other war metal-themed bands such as Balberith, and of course, the Mighty Impiety. Since their formation in 2005, the band has had numerous split and EP releases, but it is only last year that the band finally dropped their debut full length album, Ad Infinitum Satanic Adherent.
As is usual for the style of black/death metal that Infernal Execrator plays, the band wastes no time in over-indulging in atmospherics and theatrics. While the intro of opening track Baphometerror Invocation does bring in some semblance to the haunting introductions to bands like Archgoat, Infernal Execrator quickly gets down to business in their Satanic, blasphemous onslaught. Right from the start, the urgency in the riffs of Lord Ashir and Shairan, along with the former’s vocals, one is brought back to the 90s where records such as Skullfucking Armageddon reigned. The fusion of the brutality of death metal, along with the Satanic intent of black metal and the speed of thrash metal, this is classic war metal at its finest.
On top of the chaotic, yet somehow coherent playing of the individual band members, the songwriting style also points towards the classic extreme metal out of the 90s. For instance, the start-stop style on songs like Demonicult Patheosodomization shows a clear Impiety influence, particularly in the rather heavy emphasis on speed by the band throughout the record. The production is also suitably raw, yet sufficiently clear, and without knowing it, one could have easily guessed that this record was one from the earlier years of the genre.
The sound created by Infernal Execrator on their debut is one that will please fans of fast and relentless black metal – typical of the style that has gained a nice traction in the region and popularised by such acts as Impiety, Surrender of Divinity and Deiphago. Fans of the aforementioned, and of bands of the Hells Headbangers roster will surely find Ad Infinitum Satanic Adherent a charm to listen to. The barely pronounceable song titles make things all the more fun and interesting, whether this was the intention of the band or otherwise.
