Over the years the band has consistently changed their styles, surprising listeners with each release. Ruin – Spread Plague Hell

Mysterious American death metal band Ruin comes out 24 years after they disappeared off the face of the earth, to what may be one of the most intriguing demos of the year. Spread Plague Hell is the band’s first release after the band reforms since their 1991 demo, Sickening Ruin. Fans of dark and filthy death metal, rejoice!

88 Mile Trip – Through the Darkest Haze

Here’s some stoner rock out of the country known more for their technical death metal outfits and the bludgeoning war metal scene, Canada. 88 Mile Trip this year releases their debut full length album, Through the Darkest Haze, and even before listening to a single note of the band, the trippy artwork had already fully captivated me.

Skraeckoedlan – Sagor

Swedish stoner/doom metal band Skraeckoedlan returns this year with their second slab of psychedelia, Sagor, displaying their prowess not only as musicians, but songwriters as well. Fusing elements from stoner, sludge, doom with a tinge of psychedelia, Sagor is an effective beautiful, and enchanting record.

Black Trip – Shadowline

With their debut bearing such stark similarities to the first two Iron Maiden albums (which I am also a great fan of), finding out that Black Trip were releasing their sophomore album Shadowline got me even more excited than the new Maiden album. Can the band live up to the expectations that have been placed upon them with their stellar debut?
