Valdur – Divine Cessation

American black/death metal band Valdur has seen evolution in their musical style with each release. Moving from black/death metal to black metal, then to death metal on their last release, Pathetic Scum, the band now inches back to their black metal sound with the heavily atmospheric Divine Cessation. Let’s drown ourselves in the dense atmosphere that is Divine Cessation right now.

Almyrkvi – Umbra

It’s Icelandic black metal madness! We just reviewed Auðn’s latest release 1 week ago, and here with are with yet another excellent black metal release. Almyrkvi brings to us their dissonant brand of black metal à la Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega. Are we ready for so many dosages of Icelandic black metal in such a short span of time?

Acrimonious – Eleven Dragons

Greek black metallers Acrimonious left us extremely impressed with their 2012 album, Sunyata. 5 years later, they return with their third full length, Eleven Dragons, with a much darker and grimmer direction. How would this fare, and would it be able to retain the attention of Watain fans?

Auðn – Farvegir Fyrndar

At risk of being labelled a Season of Mist fanboy, here’s another excellent release – Auðn’s sophomore, Farvegir Fyrndar, atmospheric black metal from the cold landscape of Iceland. If you’re a fan of Winterfylleth, Wodensthrone, or Fen, then you can be sure to have your cravings satisfied.

Cloak – To Venomous Depths

Cloak’s debut full length album brings to fans of rock and metal a perfect fusion of black metal, death metal, and rock ‘n’ roll. To Venomous Depths is reminiscent of the recent works of Watain, Tribulation, and Morbus Chron. But how does it fare when compared to the works of these veterans?
