Heresiarch – Death Ordinance

Heresiarch left its mark on me with their 2011 EP, Hammer of Intransigence. While 2014’s Wælwulf saw a slight shift in musical direction, it was still a crushing, aggressive release. This year the band finally drops its debut full length, fusing the speed of Hammer of Intransigence, and the crushing heaviness of Wælwulf, along with possibly their most (gasp!) melodic track?

Monsterworks – The Existential Codex

Kiwi progressive metallers Monsterworks returns this year with their brand new full length, The Existential Codex. Along with being the first release of the year for them, they also display the continuous growth and evolution, and The Existential Codex is easily one of the weirdest, but personal favourite, release thus far from Monsterworks.

Album Review: Witchrist – Vritra

After 7 years of existence, New Zealand’s oppressive ritualistic black/death metal horde Witchrist finally calls it quits with two final releases towards the end of 2014. Vritra is the final EP of this excellent band, and sees KzR of Bölzer taking over vocals from Void. While running at merely 11 minutes, Vritra is a fitting swansong to the band’s 7-year career.
